Default A/C vs. swamp cooler?

I was watching Andromeda. Netflix had the first season but not the rest.
I got up to Season 2, Episode 8 on Amazon and it wouldn't play. A popup
said I needed a ComicCon subscription, $4.99 a month after a 7 day free
trial. I think Season 3 is still available.

A guy was bitching about another scifi show he had been watching that
suddenly required a subscription. Apparently ComicCon bought the rights
to some of the old shows and are trying to capitalize.

Indirectly. A lot of the programming is included with Amazon Prime. I
had Prime for years before I even watched any of their video stuff. The
two day free shipping is what makes it for me. You also get a free
Kindle book at the first of the month. A lot of them suck but I have
gotten some that I really enjoyed and introduced m to new authors.

We shouldn't protect species that wish to kill us on sight.

Virtually all of the big predators in the US are protected most places
including alligators, American crocs, bears and mountain lions. When
they figured out alligators were doing just fine they opened up a
limited hunting season on them by permit only and they hunt the bears
and mountain lions in some states but not most.
They call a mountain lion a Florida Panther here and it is
"endangered" meaning it has the highest level of protection. We are
over run with black bears too and you can't harm them either. If
Zimmerman had shot a "panther" he would have really been in trouble.

I really don't see the point in protecting such vicious animals. FFS
you can keep them in zoos if you really must.

Most of them aren't all that vicious. Black bears and lions aren't
protected in this state. I meet them in the woods, bears fairly
frequently and cats less so, and there has never been any bloodshed.
They belong there and I like seeing them around.

Same with alligators. I've paddled through the Okefenokee Swamp and the
place is overrun with gators; no problem. The damn raccoons were more of
a nuisance.

It is one of the benefits with Prime that you pay for. Plenty of OTA
free TV available, but if you want more, you pay for cable/sat.

Since there's a few hundred free channels, why do you need more than
that? The film on the pay channel will be on the free channel next year
anyway.

First, there are only 5 OTA channels in this location if you don't count

Ebay is much cheaper for everything and has more stuff available, and you can tell where it's coming from, and they tell you what the shipping cost is. If I search for stuff on Amazon, the postage isn't included in the search results, there's less stuff available, I can't tell who's sending it, it costs more, and their feedback system is unclear.

The "new labour" government has just announced that they are changing their party emblem from a red rose to a condom, as they believe it most accurately represents the governments political stance.
A condom stands up to inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks and gives you a false sense of security when you're actually being screwed.

As long as you have that crawl space well insulated that works OK but
you will end up with a higher heat bill. Down here in Florida they
will backfill that stem wall with dirt and pour the slab over it.
Problem solved.

A "crawl space" with no floor, vented to the living space, would
cause a lot of humidity problems in many places (particularly
florida). Even "basements" with concrete floors can be damp if not
either vented or conditioned. You vent the crawlspace and insulate
the floor of the living space (between the floor joists) and you don't
have heat loss issues. Keep the water lines on the "warm" side of the
insulation..

"On Slab" works good in Florida where anything resembling a basement
is liable to become an indoor swimming pool - up here in the higher
elevations and more temperate to cold regions, full basements are the
rule rather thanthe exception - almost always conditioned and used as
extra living /utility space.

Furnace in the attic? Not up here. It's in the "basement" - generally
along with laundry and a "rec room" - often an additional bathroom,-
and sometimes even a bedroom or 2.

Why not vent it to the house, then you get warm dry air into the space instead of cold damp air! Put the insulation between the space and outdoors.

My "furnace" (ROTFPMSL) is in the kitchen. It runs on natural gas (methane) piped in. It's almost silent, as the pump is in the attic. I occasionally hear it lighting the gas, but once it's burning, no sound at all. Modern ones make a ****ing racket with the pump inside them - stupid idea.

Furnace in the attic? Not up here. It's in the "basement" - generally
along with laundry and a "rec room" - often an additional bathroom,-
and sometimes even a bedroom or 2.

My "furnace" (ROTFPMSL) is in the kitchen. It runs on natural gas (methane) piped in. It's almost silent, as the pump is in the attic. I occasionally hear it lighting the gas, but once it's burning, no sound at all. Modern ones make a ****ing racket with the pump inside them - stupid idea.

never spent quality time laying on your back with a propane torch trying
to get the water going without burning down the ****ing shack.

We don't get 0F in Scotland. If you do, you really ought to insulate better.

What annoys me is the way that under the floor is vented to the outside! WTF? Vent it to the inside, then it stays warmer and dryer.

Why not vent it to the house, then you get warm dry air into the space instead of cold damp air! Put the insulation between the space and outdoors.

You vent the crawlspace and insulate
the floor of the living space (between the floor joists) and you don't
have heat loss issues. Keep the water lines on the "warm" side of the
insulation..

"On Slab" works good in Florida where anything resembling a basement
is liable to become an indoor swimming pool

Sump pumps work wonders.

And I though Florida was dry?

elevations and more temperate to cold regions, full basements are the
rule rather thanthe exception - almost always conditioned and used as

I am aware of the basement thing but a lot of them still have water
problems. You are right, a basement here is going to be an indoor
pool. You can dig a well with a post hole digger. It is just nasty
water.
Most of those "bedrooms" are illegal since they don't have proper

space to call that an egress so you need a door to the outside in the

Don't you have to pay for that? I never pay for TV.

I've been a member of Amazon Prime for 5+ years and have used it a lot. I haven't been able to order anything lately but I watch the videos on Amazon every day. I usually watch them on my computer which is connected to my 32" LED TV and 23" monitor. ^_^

It is all about what happens if the house is on fire and you wake up
in a room full of smoke. They don't want you to have to go towards the
fire. You certainly don't want to be trapped in the basement if the
fire is upstairs.

You're confused. There are a few American crocodiles down at the ass end
of Florida. Considering the other **** at the ass end of Florida like
Cubans, Salvadorans,

Shoot them too. Why the **** do Americans have guns if they don't use
them?

and other low life the crocs are the least of the
problem. And look at all the trouble George Zimmerman got into shooting
a protected species...

We shouldn't protect species that wish to kill us on sight.

Racist pig...

I've yet to hear a sensible reason why racism is wrong.

The first thing to do is define racism. Most people have no clue what the word actually means and tend to incorrectly label all sorts of things and people as "racist". o_O

It's a very simple term isn't it? Someone who believes one race is superior to another.

If the races are fundamentally different somehow, how are blood transfusions and organ transplants between humans who look different possible? Every healthy human child of any race is a blank slate and will mature depending on how it's nurtured. If a child grows up starved for food, the resulting brainpower isn't going to be exceptional. It's unfortunate that in some areas of the world, children are considered disposable. I don't like people who harm children. o_O

I was watching Andromeda. Netflix had the first season but not the rest.

That would work a lot better if so many of the white people I've come
across weren't ignorant, bottom-feeding wastes of oxygen. Some of them
are reverse Oreos -- white on the outside and black in the middle.

Julius Evola made it past simplistic biological racism. There is a
spiritual component too.

The Dumbassification of America as promoted by Commiecrats isn't helping. If only we could keep Commiecrats out of the teaching profession. o_O

What ****es me is I'm guessing the buck stops at Lionsgate; I doubt Lexi
Doig and the others are getting big royalty checks.

Google "piratebay"

I'm pretty sure Lexi doesn't get dime one from TPB either...
Intellectually I'm glad places like TPB exist; practically it's not
important enough to me to bother.

My friend The Penguin has a dog named Lexi who's a psychotic beagle. She's also a cutie. From watching all of the SciFi shows, I find it a bit amusing that most of the humans and aliens in outer space are Canadians. ^_^

It took me a while to realize that Lexi is Nissa's evil half sister in
'The Arrow'. If you haven't noticed most shows are populated by
Canadians, Brits, and Aussies. I mean there isn't an American actor good
enough to lead a biker gang and they had to import Hunnan? Michael
Madsen even had practice with his role in 'Beyond The Law' altohugh he
might have been a little old for the part.

otoh, I enjoyed 'Flashpoint', but that was set in Toronto and had a
Canadian cast being Canadians. iirc, they did eventually use a Yank
actress although there was some discussion about outsourcing.

Look at Longmire. You've got an Aussie Wyoming sheriff and a Filipino
Cheyenne... At least Sackhoff is USDA Prime.

Canadians act for Loonies; Americans want real money.

Not exactly. It's cheaper to produce TV shows in Vancouver which is up the coast from Californiastan. I imagine it's still close enough for American actors to travel without too much trouble to make it to acting jobs. ^_^

I'm having a senior moment but there was one cop show that was set in LA
but filmed in Vancouver. Other than hanging a banner that said 'Port of
Long Beach' on a warehouse they made absolutely no attempt to disguise
Vancouver right down to showing a map of Vancouver when they were
tracking a suspect.

I mean even Justified edited the orange groves out of Arlo's Kentucky
home and 'Sons of anarchy' did a lot of colorization to make a southern
California highway look like Ireland.

Warmer maybe but it tends to turn into a swamp.

No, heat reduces RH.

Unless it's well insulated, which most crawl spaces aren't, the warm,
moist air condenses on the cold walls.
