Careful! He has LEDs on his Harley, and they light up when he is

I own an 02 XL1200C like this one without the windscreen and rack
behind the backrest and the Screamin Eagle pipes and airf ilter
cover. Did have the stock pipes drilled and the carb jetted tho and
it's got a real beefy tone. I'm not a fan of straight pipes on a 1200
motor. Put them on an 88 and up CUI and they're the bomb.

Pretty sweet, better take that windshield off before you get addicted to it.
Here's a pic of mine taken back in 2001 right after a flood, but that's
another life story. ;-) I have since pulled the rack off, changed to a
solo seat and have a pair of 11" Progressive 440's on the back. Really
changed the look allot. Exposing so much of the rear fender really makes it
look old school now. This was on July 4 2001, a few months before I wrecked
it. The wreck hardly hurt the bike other than ruining the wheels (struck
median). It went down on the right side and didn't hurt the paint or engine
at all. The handlebars, foot peg, foot brake lever, rear muffler and rear
shock mount kept everything else off the pavement. Not a scratch on the
paint. Smashed rear turn light and mount, scraped muffler, broke brake
lever, very slight bend in handlebars. Fixed it all myself to keep the
insurance company from finding out. If I'd have known that the rear wheel
was bent too, I probably would have made a claim, but it only cost me about
$400 to fix it. Wheels from e-bay (front from a dyna, rear from a "hog"
hope it's not slowing me down ;-). Gotta love that interchangability. ;-)
Got the lever, and grip for free at the stealer from take-offs.

I'll try and take another pic showing the solo seat and shorter shocks.

Bike turned into a physics instructor and threw me onto the road

Sorry, I got carried away bragging about _my_ "MassiveProng" and forgot to
tell you that it's a 97 (ten years old this month in fact). Drag pipes like
yours look good. Taking out the cross-over tube looks good, but it costs
you some power. I also jetted mine, K&N air filter and Screamin' Eagle
slip-ons, wow what a difference. They're starting to get pretty loud in
their old age. I really like the look of street sweepers, but they don't
match the style of my bike at all. I'm thinking about adding a jockey-shift
though.

It certainly seems more than coincidence that he showed up, gave poor advice
about electronics, got mad when taken to task for it, then the stuff
started. The kooks seemed to know lionel well, so it stands to reason that
he could have drug them in here on purpose. Not that the kooks have all
been bad, it's those other soc people that seem to like to make the real
trouble. In fact Mr. Plow (an apparent kookologist) and I are having decent
conversation about big-boyz-toyz right now. I'm not sure I understand what
the kooks are all about, but it seems that they aren't necessarily kooks
themselves (in the normal sense of the word), but are exotic game hunters of
sort. Perusing USENET in search of nutters to taunt. To each his own, I'm
here for the electronics though. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good OT
diversion or occasional flame-war just like the next guy, but man those
nutter trolls with the header forging obsession are something else.

Isn't there always some of that involved. I'm not even going into all the
details of my last wreck because I'd never hear the end of it. Suffice it
to say that you should never leave home with only sunglasses even if you
plan on being gone just a few minutes. You never know when you'll forget
and get caught at night with only that for eye protection.

Tried to make it through a red light at an intersection and make a
left turn at the same time, too fast and too jerky.

Oops.

Pretty good at making those lessons stick too, aren't they? ;-)

Wasn't all that bad though... After I managed to get myself up and
get my wits about me the bike started right up again and got me

The first time I went over the handle bars (on pavement as an "adult") was
in the early 80's. I was riding around downtown gawking at girls and didn't
notice a pickup stop in front of me. I locked up the rear brake and could
tell that the rear of the bike wasn't going to miss the truck as it got
sideways. So I did another stupid thing and let off the brake. The bike
snapped around and threw me like a bronco. I did the somersault thing and
made it all the way over not hitting my head on the road that time. I
landed on my shoulder blade and flopped out in typical fashion feet first.
Being much younger, I was able to get up after a moment and get myself to
side of the road. Really knocked the wind out of me, but other than that I
only had some minor soft-tissue problems with my shoulder for a few weeks.
Got on and rode away after about a five minute breather. Age makes all the
difference I think.

Good job, on escaping death. Cool that you got some money for your pain. I
know that if I ever get hurt like that again, somebody is writing me a big
check. I considered this one mostly my fault, but given the road conditions
and the current state of the legal system, I probably could have sued the
city for it (intersection lighting out for months, median protruding way out
needlessly and not painted or marked, actually had been run over by so many
cars and trucks that the end of it was black from tire marks). Of course I
should have had the right glasses on too, but hey **** happens and the cop
never noticed that at all. I just thank God that drunks didn't run me over
when I was laying in the road unconscious. Stupid wrecker drivers thought I
was dead and didn't even try to help. They just tried to steal my watch
when it flew off. Dodged all those morons in cars/trucks/vans/busses/etc...
for all those years and then run over the end of a median at night and
almost take myself out.

I got a load ass horn too. People hate it, but if they'd keep their head
out of their ass while they're hurling their 3-ton SUV around town, they
wouldn't have to hear it. My favorite big scarey noise is to shut the
ignition off with the kill switch, give it a little throttle and then turn
it back on a couple seconds later. I promise you'll **** your pants on that
one if you're jawing on the phone, not paying attention to the road, and
threaten my "personal space" with your cage. LOL just thinking about it.
Worried I'm going to lose a muffler like that some day though.

Mine has 8K miles on it Oh and BTW I meant "like" the picture in

Mines well over 35K. Not a hude number of miles for ten years, but more
than most people ride I think. Especially since I didn't ride it for spells
like when I wrecked it (about a year till I got it all going again), wife
pregnant-daughter born (major slice out of riding time there), floods (3 to

the link I posted but WITHOUT the backrest rack and shield. Oh and it

Ok, I can picture that. I like my flat-track bars, it's like riding a 500lb
dirt bike. Wheelies and all. ;-)

plate in the baffles and a rejet to compensate for the loss of back
pressure. I really like the sound of those factory pipes without the
end piece in the baffle. Real throaty without the brap brap brap brap
that straight pipes on a 74 CUI motor make. I've ridden with bigger
CUI Harleys and when I crack the throttle, no problem keeping up. The
Sporty is a light bike at 400 lbs and the HP/Weight ratio is the same

Should be about 480lbs IIRC.

or exceeds bigger models until you get into the custom 108 CUI

Exactly, that's why the "hog" riders make fun of them. It's because they're
faster and they're jealous. I'd like to have a bigger bike (or two or
three), but I'll never sell my Sporty. Like the little sticker on my air
cleaner says "Sure it's a girls bike, wanna race for pink slips?" The BT
guys think they've got something with their "twin" cams. Next thing you
know they'll be bragging about Quad cams and proper pushrod geometry once
they steal that from the Sportster too.

models. I could punch the bore out on the jugs to 80 for a few more
horseys but I want a reliable bike. The 883 model has the same stroke
but IIRC the bore is 3" where the 1200 is 3.5.

Right, you can bore the stock 883 jugs the 1/2" to take them out to 1200cc.
New pistons and a gasket kit and your in business for a fraction of what the
factory charges for the "upgrade". The 883 has fewer teeth on the front
pulley (27 vs 29) so it will have more oomph out of the hole once converted,
but it will rattle your teeth a little harder on the hiway as well.

If you haven't done it, I highly recommend rejetting and a K&N
filter/Screamin Eagle air cleaner setup. My pipes look just like the stock
ones, including having the HD scripted name on them. They have tapered ends
so they aren't quite as loud as slash cuts, but they can be heard ok. Not
"brappy" or as I put it "splatty" at all. I can't stand that. I also can't
stand back-firing when you let off the throttle, so we have none of that
going on here. Just a nice BRRRRRRRRRR as it slows down. I tend to use
engine compression as my primary braking force so I don't want to hear that
cackling crap.

What do you expect from an HP POS camera. It's turqoise and ivory

MinimumDong's "bike" is a Schwinn, or maybe a Huffy, lady's style ;-)

with 11 stitches in the back of my head, bruised ribs and a bit of
elbow road rash. Cost the offender's insurance 2000 to fix the Sporty
and 12,500 to fix me (actually got 8000 cash and went to FL on a two
week vacation for free.

Mine happened at 9:AM on the way to a meeting with my son's school. Chick
pulled out of a side street to the east with the sun in her eyes. She
didn't see me. I had no malice towards her, never even talked to her. I
could have easily been badly hurt or worse had I not acted instantly after
I realized I couldn't brake. I hit the back brake, turned the front
wheel, let the back of the bike come around then and laid down for the
most part on top of the bike as it skid. That's the reason I had little
road rash. I was in jeans and tshirt BTW. Did bang the back of my head
hard which knocked me out and caused a big gash. Luckily there was no
fracture and just a mild concussion. I had maybe 3 seconds to make my
choice as to what was the best way out and I was doing the speed limit of
35.

Yet another twit with too many Gs to the skull.

The pipes aren't detrimental to the motor at all. Don't even start trying
to be a Harley expert now. Get one, wrench on it yourself for ten years and
then come back. Now that it has jets, air cleaner/filter and pipes that
match, the engine is far better off than it was when it came from the
factory. Don't believe me? I can point you to 3 or 4 thousand people that
will be happy to tell you the same thing. ---- www.sportster.org

Keep doing it, dip****.I hope it costs you big time.

The backfires aren't helping it any, but they aren't doing any serious
damage. If it breaks, I can fix it. No biggy. My bike was in three floods
remember? It was in over two feet of water once. Filled the crankcase and
tranny with water on that one (the others were too low to get in like that).
That was about two weeks BEFORE the picture I posted. It was a sad sight
then, but it's fine now. Fixed it all myself.

Let's see your pics.

I suppose he has a reason, I don't know how "good" it is. Sorry if I
snapped at you prematurely, but I've been a little annoyed lately
what with the kooks, trolls, jack-booted net-kops and what not.

---
Seems like our buddy Lionel is largely responsible for that, what
with his revenge crossposting after having been critic more harshly
than he thought he should have been.

Thank God he's not a watercolor artist.

It certainly seems more than coincidence that he showed up, gave poor advice
about electronics, got mad when taken to task for it, then the stuff
started.

---
It _is_ more than coincidence. You may remember that, somewhere
upstream, he stated that he knew that I had backing [LOL!] but that
he had the backing of the "aukish hordes" and he stated (and I
paraphrase) that if things didn't start going to his liking on the
"Noob help... LED Flip-Flop help" thread on seb he was going to
invoke their wrath. Soon after that he started crossposting to auk
with the sole intent of stirring up some ****.

Basically, the creep wanted to throw the whole newsgroup into
disarray because of a personal disagreement he had with me which he
couldn't resolve to his liking. That is, have me kow-tow to him.

Like I'd _ever_ kow-tow to the bullying son of a bitch.
---

---
Yup.

Funny thing is they gang up on someone like MP (who's basically OK
but _can_ be abrasive, LOL!) and instead of fighting it out on one
newsgroup and either winning or losing, but containing the vitriol,
they go to great pains to spread it far and wide and claim that's
hurting the one who they say "started" it. Kind of like if you have
sex with someone you _know_ is HIV positive and then you go on a
****ing spree to punish that person. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Stupidity.

Oops.

Bike turned into a physics instructor and threw me onto the road
pretty hard.

Pretty good at making those lessons stick too, aren't they? ;-)

Wasn't all that bad though... After I managed to get myself up and
get my wits about me the bike started right up again and got me
home.

---
Yup. It takes longer and longer for things to heal. :-(
