BTW, how did you do that? Looks like a giant bruised area from an
impact. What hit you?

Stupidity.

Isn't there always some of that involved. I'm not even going into all the
details of my last wreck because I'd never hear the end of it. Suffice it
to say that you should never leave home with only sunglasses even if you
plan on being gone just a few minutes. You never know when you'll forget
and get caught at night with only that for eye protection.

Tried to make it through a red light at an intersection and make a
left turn at the same time, too fast and too jerky.

Oops.

Bike turned into a physics instructor and threw me onto the road
pretty hard.

Pretty good at making those lessons stick too, aren't they? ;-)

Wasn't all that bad though... After I managed to get myself up and
get my wits about me the bike started right up again and got me
home.

The first time I went over the handle bars (on pavement as an "adult") was
in the early 80's. I was riding around downtown gawking at girls and didn't
notice a pickup stop in front of me. I locked up the rear brake and could
tell that the rear of the bike wasn't going to miss the truck as it got
sideways. So I did another stupid thing and let off the brake. The bike
snapped around and threw me like a bronco. I did the somersault thing and
made it all the way over not hitting my head on the road that time. I
landed on my shoulder blade and flopped out in typical fashion feet first.
Being much younger, I was able to get up after a moment and get myself to
side of the road. Really knocked the wind out of me, but other than that I
only had some minor soft-tissue problems with my shoulder for a few weeks.
Got on and rode away after about a five minute breather. Age makes all the
difference I think.
