How do we separate the wax from the honey?

Hey Iggy can you plonk me as well because I think you're a clueless
idiot when it comes to machining and always will be because of your
approach. I know it's wrong but every time I see your last name I'm
reminded of this scene from The Green Hornet movie. The movie pretty
much sucked ass except for this scene:

Ah well. When I see your posts it comes to mind that you really aren't
a metal worker, you are just another computer programmer and about as
skilled as the "cobel coders" of yesteryear.

It's clear to me you don't have much of a mind and that you have no
clues what modern CNC machining is all about. To be a good CADCAM
programmer you must be a good machinist.

Interesting. Where did you serve your apprenticeship, were you trained
to be a machinist or?

They're born stupid and they live stupid lives. And then when they're
retired and have the time and the technology to finally learn
something, they use it instead to get stupider. At least worldnutdaily

Gunner has a huge fan club made up of stupid people who can't help
themselves when it comes to machining or rational thinking. It's very
cult like.

Thus speaks a machinist / CADCAM programmer.

Jon, I've seen you wax loud and long about the virtues of various
pieces of software but, you know, I've never seen you advance any
opinions or advise about metalworking (the title of this site). I can
only assume that you know something about software and nothing about
metal working.

Converting a Bridgeport knee mill to a Linux controlled CNC doesn't
make one a machinist. When you make statements like this it shows how
little you know about machining. Your tremendous ego holds you back
from starting at ground zero and taking adult education for machining.
You don't have the proper machining foundation and it shows
constantly. Your ego has gotten in the way for years with you learning
the fundamentals of machining.

Ego getting in the way.... Oooo Jon, you've been looking in the

That certainly wasn't the case at Segway where the engineers
monopolized the CNC machines and forced me to use the manual ones.

The flip side is machinists with no clue about Statics or Dynamics who
take shortcuts like this one that caused the Kansas City Skyway
collapse. In case the explanation isn't clear, the threads bore the
load meant to be carried by the core of the rod. Unless the coupler
has been carefully dimensioned to stretch at the same rate as the rod,
the threads will fail progressively inwards from the ends at a load
far below the rod's tensile strength. Nonintuitively a thicker coupler
makes a weaker connection by concentrating the load on the first few
threads instead of distributing it over all of them. I learned this
from a lecture by the accident investigator.

See the Wikipedia article.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyatt_R...lkway_collapse

It's interesting to note that yes, the contractor suggested a modified
design to enable actual construction of the walkways in the field
which finally led to the collapse, but the engineering firm made the
original dumbass design that created the need for some type of
modification, the original being hanger rods threaded all the way from
the second floor walkway to the fourth floor walkway, and secondarily,
support beams welded from two channels to make a box beam, with the
hanger rods passing right through the welded seam, the weakest point
on the beam.

Plenty of blame to go around on that one.

IIRC the fabricator didn't have enough clearance around his lathe to
turn the rods in one piece, and didn't want to sub the job out. The
full-length rods were also expensive/difficult to transport.

John B. would you please plonk me as well since you can't see that for
years Iggy has done everything possible to run away from what he needs
to do to build his machining skills. Iggy is focused on one thing and
one thing only: buying stuff as cheap as he can. Not a bad skill to
have but when it blinds you, like it blinds Iggy, towards paying the
price and building his machining skills, I think it's a major problem.
I guess he runs an Algebra help website and writes software and that's
great but he seems to think he doesn't need adult eduction for
machining, which is too bad because the Chicago area probably has some
great programs for machining and for welding. He's tried to buy very
high quality stuff that I sell dirt cheap from me and I told him
forget it. I don't sell the high quality stuff I own for nothing. I
guess he was insulted that I wouldn't lower my prices.

Well, I've been here about as long as Iggy and I've certainly seen him
post questions. But why not? Unless you happen to be one of those
folks who "know everything" you will certainly, from time to time have
a question to ask. Are you arguing that one should never help out
anyone by answering their questions?

As for "engineering skills", where did that come from? I don't believe
Iggy ever claimed to be a machinist, or a welder for that matter, and
why should he? He's not in the machine shop or welding shop business.

Although I will say that instead of arguing about which version of
CAM is the best he goes out and actually does something.

Well said!

I was here when he first came in and asked about how to do simple
welding...probably 10-12 yrs ago.

He has come a long way.

Gunner

The methodology of the left has always been:

1. Lie
2. Repeat the lie as many times as possible
3. Have as many people repeat the lie as often as possible
4. Eventually, the uninformed believe the lie
5. The lie will then be made into some form oflaw
6. Then everyone must conform to the lie

There is no flip side. You either pay your dues making lots of
different parts from lots of different materials and become a real
machinist or you don't. You don't need a CNC machine to make lots of
different parts from lots of different materials.

Bull****, Iggy. You don't care what real machinists think about you.
Real machinists who have to deal with your bull**** think you're a
****ing moron. The reason you are a moron is that you refuse to pay
your dues. Many engineers suffer from the same mental illness you
suffer from. It's why most engineers can't machine their way out of a
paper bag. Like you, they think they're smarter than real machinists
and that their smarts can make up for the experience of cutting lots
and lots of different parts made out of different materials. Here is a
news flash for you bubba... it can't.

Are you implying that you are a "real" machinist? And, you served your
apprenticeship where? Adult education class?

*From reading the posts that you have made here it appears that ~you~
really can't do metalworking, You can program a machine to do metal
working but that is a long, long, step away from actually doing hands
on work.

Much like Steve B and Tom Gardner you can't use Google and your both
lazy and dumb. I have hundreds of posts on Usenet that discuss
machining and machining techniques.

Every one of them is bull**** and is mocked, denigrated and disparaged

anything, little jonny banqueer. *You are a ****ing pariah, and it's

Reputation is important, both business, and personal. And real business
acquaintances and real friends will have an idea of your personality,
integrity, and character. So much so that if someone was to say something
against you that your friends would question it, and come to you and ask.

So, don't worry one whit about the anklebiters. Just those who are
important in business, and friendship. My Dad said that if a man had six
friends, he was lucky, and would be a pretty busy man enjoying those
friendships. He said that after about six, the relationships start to
shallow out, as you have less time to spend with each.

When I was in business, my clients and suppliers were important to me. I
paid no attention to others. All my life, I consider what my friends think
of me to be a mirror of my own activity, and so long as I'm a decent friend,
that mirror will be pretty reliable most of the time.

The rest are unimportant babbling gossips, just like a lot of folks here.
Don't worry about them.

Not one whit.

Steve

Someone who doesn't care what anyone in the world thinks of him is a
sociopath. I have long maintained that your friends are the people
about whose opinions - of you and other things - you *do* care and
*ought* to care. You might not change your course of action or your way
of thinking if a friend criticizes it, but you sure as hell ought to
give the friend's opinion more consideration than you would give the
opinion of a stranger or someone you don't respect at all. Presumably,
your friends - and their opinions - have earned at least some of your
respect, or else why would they be your friends at all?

John B. would you please plonk me as well since you can't see that for
years Iggy has done everything possible to run away from what he needs
to do to build his machining skills.

Although I will say that instead of arguing about which version of
CAM is the best he goes out and actually does something.

little jonny "bozo" banqueer, CAD/CAM *FRAUD*, doesn't actually "do"
anything with CAD/CAM; he just blabbers about it meaninglessly.

Leftists, of course, are the worst racists around. They see race as

race is not any part of conservative doctrine. Race and racial identity

....that little jonny "bozo" banqueer, CAD/CAM *FRAUD*, doesn't actually
*do* anything with CAD/CAM. He's a *fraud*. He just ****es away the
hours in Usenet, and collects a few more LinkedIn "friends".

Any more lip out of you and I'll haul off and let you have it...if you
know what's good for you, you won't monkey around with Fred C. Dobbs.

Default Old fart honey question

It's obvious that Fred C. Dobbs lost it when his cheap Chinese TV
couldn't be repaired. Seems like Brain Dead Fred is desperately
looking for someone who can repair his cheap Chinese TV. I don't do TV
repair. It's not in my skill set. Does anyone have this skill set that
wants to do pro bono TV repair work and help mentally challenged Fred
C Dobbs? It might get Fred C Dobbs and his numerous other posting
aliases (Plimpton, Max Blast, maxheadroom, etc.) off Usenet and back
to doing what he loves to do most: watching the Jerry Springer show.
