Why don't everyone wait until all the facts come out before they make any judgements? Because if they knew all the facts then they could not blame Israel, which is a popular sport. The situation in Gaza is horrible, but the Israelis are only one part of the problem in Gaza. Now that the cargo has been inspected, it's not even being allowed into Gaza by the authorities, because to do so would be a tacit admission that the Israelis have no problem with delivering humanitarian aid. No country can allow ships to deliver uninspected cargo to its shores, especially since there has been a history of weapons smuggling into Gaza which is then used in terrorist attacks. As always, the people that suffer because of the political statements that were being made by the activists are the residents of Gaza. It's interesting that the world appears to be tiring of the "blame Isreal without knowing the facts" game. Most of the reports on this incident, both in the world media and the U.S. media were pretty even-handed, emphasizing that the Israeli's were attacked by the activists, and that Israel offered to allow the ship to dock in Ashdod and transfer the humanitarian cargo to Gaza. But of course the activists don't really care at all about the residents of Gaza, they were more interested in a publicity stunt that had tragicresults. |

Even today, talk to older folks in some areas (especially after a couple of beers so their guard is down), and the old teachings come shining through. I don't accept the fact that people are programmed by their upbringing. If that were the case, culture would remain constant, and the religious, political, and other societal tastes and belief of the parents would always be shared by their children. Of course people are heavily influenced by their upbringing. But you are ignoring the fact that many people respond to their upbringing by questioning the veracity of what they've been told, often deciding that their parent's values are "old fashioned" and sometimes even rejecting them outright. However, in order to do that, the individuals have to be inquisitive - usually a key indicator of intelligence. But, be careful not to conflate intelligence with education. An unintelligent person is very adept at rejecting what they are taught if those teachings conflict with their previous beliefs. Only the intelligent are able to integrate new knowledge without feeling threatened and make their own choices based on more data. The fact that older folks become set in their ways and more commonly believe as they did when they were in their young adulthood (your KKK example) is not relevant to the argument. I'll cite the example of emerging tolerance for homosexuals in the U.S. Almost all surveys show that the younger the demographic slice, the more tolerant the values. So much for parental "programming". A good example of rejecting the old ways may be the young people of Iran. Except that in Iran the old way isn't all that old. There was a rather sizable middle class before the Islamic nutcases took over. |

I take it you would still "go after the *******s and make sure they never did it again", right? And thus begins an endless cycle of retaliation. The Iraqi says his family has a feud with another guy "because his cousin killed my cousin" or something like that. The American asks, "When did that happen?" and the Iraqi replies "In 1378." The problem could be easily resolved if Hamas and Hezblah recognize the State of Israel and stop firing rockets and sending suicide bombers in. Then I'm sure the two sides can sit down and talk out their differences. But every time the talks get near, a new round of rockets goes flying into Israel. So? Israel should just sit there twiddling their thumbs? No, of course not. The problem is that the entire Arab world is still stuck in the 14th century. One day she came to the pool wearing a T-shirt with "Jihad" across the back and front. I asked her why she wore it. She told me it's her duty to fight and destroy the Jews. The next time I brought a small Israeli flag. The woman spit at me. Just shows, they are not interested in getting along no matter how nice you try to be. They are here and there to push their violent and uncivilized agenda, much like you.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - There is a history between you. Evil Jews have stolen Arab lands. Everyone who has followed or contributed to this OT discussion of the recent Israeli blockade incident should read this OP-ED piece in today's Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...10/06/03/AR201... By the way, as long as you're quoting from Wiki, here's an article from them that states the British were using the King David Hotel as a military and political headquarters. It also states that the Irgun gave plenty and fair warning of their attack to allow people to leave before but the warning was not heeded. It's surprising how desperate some people will get. You will never beat them with violence. But Jews are too stupid to understand that. Believe it or not, there have been Arab and Jewish communities here in Birmingham, Alabama from the beginning, the city is only 140 years old. When I was talking to a fairly recent Palestinian immigrant who is an American citizen and came here as a child, he told me, "We don't have jets, tanks and helicopters, we have suicide bombers. Those are our tanks, jets and helicopters." There is a large group of Arab Christians here too and when I was discussing The Middle East with one of my friends from that community, I said "Heck, you're an Arab Catholic, everybody over there hates you." He asked, "How did you know?" I said to him "You're not Muslim and you're not Jewish, you belong to the smallest minority in that area, nobody's got your back." He told me that was true and said I should visit The Middle East with him some time, it would blow my mind. I should probably leave my American flag T-shirt at home. TDD- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - He is exactly right. You should definately go. You could adopted the ploy of wearing a mini Canadian flag. Even English speakers can't tell the differance in the accent. A good place to start is Morrocco. I have always been treated very kindly by Arabs. Even ones who couldn't really afford it. Most of these guys have an agenda, they go looking for "facts" to fit what they want to portray. You need to visit yourself or failng that, to collect information from various sources. I collect all my information about America from Aljazeera. Much more balanced account than Fox TV. ;-) Heh! Heh! To you and your loved ones and Al Jazeera |

I guess the schools over there no longer teach English, and are too embarrassed to teach their children about the war they lost with the USA back around 1776-1781 when the USA was the smaller and weaker power in that fight. |

England has fought MANY wars without U.S. help. All over the world. Including against the Jews striving for independence in Palestine (Trans-Jordan). Yes. Against the Arabs and lost. Name a major war that they have won in the last 200 years. And by the way, they lost the war against the Jews in Palestine. They couldn't stop the Jews no matter how hard they tried. They were thrilled with the UN mandate so that they could retreat with their tales between their legs. |
