Great, cool, groovy. But what does it mean "dress professionally"?
Dress like when I go to report for work? As I do when I've had the
job a while?

Or dress like I'm going to talk to an HR drone who doesn't realize
that manufacturing jobs aren't management, or service, or white collar
- but blue collar? That we don't manage production, but "make
stuff"?

fnord.

I'll wear something clean, w/o holes, and probably not the BDUs I wear
everywhere else but to job interviews.

I won't consider an applicant if:
-Smells bad
-Dirty clothes
-Unkept appearance
-Pants below the waist
-Drunk or high
-Slouching or other disrespectful body language

THEN I look at general and specific skills, work record and education.
Then I'll do a background check and a drug test. Then the applicant
will be interviewed by the workcell manager.

Well, I do like to wear my pants down below my ass!

I did have a couple of young guys that did wear their pants down. It's
a safety issue and nobody wants to see their underwear. I told them
that if I ever saw that again on my property that they would be fired.
Both soon quit anyway, they didn't like getting to work at 7:00 AM.
You'd think it would be easy to get a job with a little "common" sense.

In -an- office, yes. The daily grind tends to suck, and rush hours are
the truly sucky!

In my own home office or shop or outside/onsite, I love working
whenever, at my own pace without a gruesome and clueless micro-manager
staring over my shoulder.

I'll start at 7am today, then work until noonish, whenever it gets too
hot. When I have web work, I usually start at 4am, when I get up and
am at my freshest.

Some of the guys are coming in at 5:00 AM in this heat. Everybody else
in starting at 6:00 AM, they asked and it's fine by me. Flex-time helps

Well, without explanation anyway. If an otherwise okay person took a
call because his kid or wife was in trouble, I'd not think less of him
or her. Just because I'm (potentially) their boss, I don't expect them
to forsake all others...

It would not be a deal killer to me, if the interviewee picked the
phone and politely said that he or she is not able to talk.

As a modest bribe, or to guzzle during the interview? Anything up to a

I'll tell you what is worse: being out of work. I mean, you wake

that you can relax and rest up for the next day!

The news story said he offered the boss one, and was told to leave

I actually had one of those about 20 yrs ago.

I pondered a moment about hiring him for the head honchos driver..then

From what I read, it was a tech job where he would work at customer

I wouldn't like getting to work at 7:00 AM either. I prefer an
earlier start time. Actually my shift doesn't start until 5:30, but
I'm at work forty five minutes early.

In the winter, I'd only see the sun the ten minutes it took to get
to work. Selah.

but then..Im nocturnal by nature.
