For what it's worth, gentlemen, my experience is that winters that start off cold tend to stay cold.

So, my best advice to all of you is to plan for temperatures well below seasonal for the remainder of this winter.

Toss some more methylmercury into the oceans while you're at it...it adds a nice flavor to the fish.

Carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of many natural processes , man is
one of the lesser sources - termites make more ! . But mercury , that didn't
get into the water "naturally" . You must be a well-programmed liberal drone
to even attempt to link the two .

Yep. Heating with wood is carbon neutral in the long run as all wood will _eventually_ rot and release its carbon. In the short term? Not so much. I have been heating with wood since 1976 and over that time all the trees I have burned would not have rotted if left alone.

Look, I know you think Alabamastan is the entire world, but it
isn't. Even though the annual average global temperature has been
quite near a local maximum for several years, the result of that is
more unstable weather patterns, hence in this year's cold winter.

Why would you expect the temperature in any given location to be
strictly linearly increasing? Climate is a complex system, more
complicated than the stock market. Over the last hundred years the
stock market has trended upward, even though individual stock prices
have gone up and down a quite bit. The average world temperature has
exhibited similar behavior.

So many people are humor and irony impaired. I'm sure you never read
about the Russian scientist who discovered that the mean temperature of
Mars is rising at the same rate as that of the planet Earth. It's normal
for the climate of our Earth to be in chaos. Over the past 100 years or
so, we've been spoiled by a fairly stable climate. All those SUV's,
private jets and mansions on Mars belonging to those 1% Liberals elites
who's home planet IS Mars, is the cause of that planet's temperature
rise. Oh yea, I've lived in other countries like Californiastan and I
was in Los Angeles in 1989 when it snowed and I had trouble making my
way to San Francisco due to the snow that was blocking The Grape Vine. I
also lived in the mid Pacific in 1987-88 when a once in 100 year storm
hit the islands. When I came back to the states in 1988, I was going to
go stay in Eastern Mexico but changed my mind when hurricanes ripped it
to shreds. For some reason, in the later part of the last century, weird
weather seemed to follow me around. ^_^

I'm interested in that answer too ! It's up to 4° here from an
overnight low of 2° , and this is the second time so far this

The answer is simple. You BOTH demonstrated your ignorance of
the difference between weather and climate. Clue: You both
cited current weather as an excuse for your climate denial.

I'm not a scientist , but I can observe what's going on . Little
things like cherry-picking data to support a conclusion ,
falsifying data to support your conclusions , etc . And GW
"scientists" have been caught doing both . Follow the money ...

You do not have to be a scientist to make this observation.

This humble chemist has been a global warming skeptic for years.

I'm probably one of the few to have read Al Gore's "Earth in the
Balance" and realize that it was just a political polemic.

The whole issue has become politicized by those that like big
government and can profit from it.

Even if global warming was true, there is not much we can do to stop
it, and there are far more problems on earth that demand more
attention.

Why has the temperature been rising at the same rate as it has for

I'll make this as simple as possible...this is WINTER...the Southern Hemisphere has SUMMER!

And it's WARMING. That's why the expedition to Antarctica was frozen
in, as was the ice breaker sent to rescue them. ;-)

Also, look as the extremes in weather we have been having, hurricanes, droughts, flooding, polar vortices...

ALl normal, except to the talking heads on TeeVee (and Washington).

Global climatic change has nothing to do with what your temperature
is today, was yesterday or what the average has been over the last
decade or so.

Just out of curiosity, why do you not consider valid the opinions of
people trained in the science and who base their opinions on years of
study and observstions to which you are not privy?

I spend a lot of time in the privy and a lot of junk science belongs
should be disposed there. ^_^

I was never able to complete my degree in physics but I never lost my
love of science and my skepticism of folks demanding I change my
lifestyle because they believe their assertions and theories are the
correct and only ones that exist. I'm suspect of anything a government
want's to force on me at gunpoint based on some scientific theory. I'm
looking at different sources and trying to take in different opinions
and theories from different scientists who's research funds are not
connected to some government looking to use their scientific theories to
point guns at the population and control their behavior based on the
science from those who take money from them. I'm sorry but the boffins
promoting this Chicken Little approach to Climate Change seem to be
obtaining research funds from suspect sources. Back in the last century,
scientists working for tobacco companies swore that cigarets wouldn't
hurt you. My male bovine droppings detector goes off every time
I hear any of the hysteria over Global Cooling, Warming, Climate Change. o_O

Only a complete idiot doesn't yet know that it's climate change, and
not global warming. If today is warmer, it's because of freon in air
conditioners. Or, maybe carbon foot print. If it's colder, that's due
to chemicals in spray cans. In either case, it's all our fault. It
means that we need to tax the rich, stop driving cars, prevent cows
from farting, and stop using air conditioners. Matter of fact, we've
got to stop manufacturing cheimcals, drilling for petroleum,
fracking, or making asphalt roads. We're killing the planet, and it's
all our fault because we are evil. Everyone get together, we're all
going to cry and then we'll start a movement to ask Al Gore to
forgive us, and sell us carbon offset credits so we can light a
fireplace to help keep warm.

How can a freeloader afford heat when you are on welfare? Do
taxpayers pay for it?

Oh there you go again Killer Loon. You still don't understand that I've
paid into the system longer than you've been alive. Ya know, you still
haven't written of your wonderful job and high salary. Did you get that
$15/hr minimum wage you demanded yet? You still haven't been able to
define this "Teabillie" or "Teabilly" thing you keep spewing. How are
your mom and livestock father getting along? ^_^

The Gore Huggers often speak of drought and how bad it is.

Someone recently summed it up (no I have no exact source).

Sample:

12,000 bottles of water to make a gallon of Ethanol

1 bottle of water to extract a gallon gas by Fracturing

Anybody?

Per The Daring Dufas:
What about the ozone layer thing? Granted it wasn't weather, but
AFIK, it was heading for "overall of the planet" until countries got
together and limited the release of something-or-other (freon?).

Another study done my scientists, who were not paid off, determined that
volcanoes were responsible for the majority of chlorine spewed into the
atmosphere. There are those arrogant, deranged humans again. o_O

But the holes in the ozone layer closed up after freon(?) use was cut
back - yet volcanic activity remained the same, right?

I'll make this as simple as possible...this is WINTER...the Southern Hemisphere has SUMMER!
Also, look as the extremes in weather we have been having, hurricanes, droughts, flooding, polar vortices...

What extremes? Hurricanes are down. Droughts are about normal.
Flooding is about normal. Polar vortices are a lame "new" term
for normal.

Not to mention the fact that ethanol is a crappy fuel, cost
way too much to produce, and any purported benefit from the
mandated use of ethanol is offset by the above plus the fact
that cleaner burning vehicles are obtained via modern technology,
not the use of ethanol.

Anyone miss the .99 cent medium sized bag of Doritos? :-)

The answer is simple. You BOTH demonstrated your ignorance of the difference between weather and climate. Clue: You both cited current weather as an excuse for your climate denial.

Hmm, climate is used to ascertain "normal" weather. Observing abnormal
weather in regards to "normal" climate is not unusual. However, it is
true that most people do not look for trends or compare actual data
against perceived and real anomalies.

Yep. Heating with wood is carbon neutral in the long run as all wood will _eventually_ rot and release its carbon. In the short term? Not so much. I have been heating with wood since 1976 and over that time all the trees I have burned would not have rotted if left alone.

Harry K

Depending on the type of tree, I presume? I grew up in a Forrest
and small trees were gone rather quickly. Tasty things for the
insects and such.
