John D Dingell (D-MI15), take note that he's Congressman from MICHIGAN

is proposing a 50¢/gallon additional tax on gasoline.

He's also partner to a proposal to do away with the mortgage interest
deduction on your house if its size is above 3000 sq.ft.

Bwahahahahaha! Democrats are their own worst enemies.

Not necessarily........ I know a lot of "democrats" who would be very
opposed to that crap. Every party has its share of ass holes, just ask the

Political suicide. But in reality, we need much bigger taxes on gas,
in the country's strategic interest.

That said, "global warming" is embraced so wildly by Democrats and
european governments because it's the sweetest excuse in decades for
taxation, control, business-bashing, and class warfare.

Yup. There's still a chance they may blow the presidential election
which, everything considered, would be a feat.

It's the only way to get people to drive more fuel efficient cars.

It needs to be more like $3 a gallon to have any meaningful effect though.

All they have to do in nominate Hillary. It's bad enough having a
President who's in the pocket of the oil industry, but one who's a
wholly-owned subsidiary of the insurance cartel could only be worse.

Why are you complaining?
1 liter=1.38 euro. for us in in the Netherlands.
1 gallon = 3.785 liter = 5.22 euro = 7.21 U.S. dollars.

Despite that we have 3% unemployment.

I'm not complaining. Just making an observation.

UK unemployment seems to be about 5.5% currently. I expect it's all those jobs
we exported to India and China etc.

1 litre of petrol as we call it cost me 91p today. That's $1.84 $6.95 per US
gallon. And still no shortage of cars on the road, but they don't have huge
engine sizes like US cars wastefully do.

How big Is Netherlands?

Hmm... I guess I better do the work.

The Area is 16k mi^2. I live in Texas with an area of 250k mi^2.

What this means is that families and work are more spread out and hence it
takes more gas on average for an individual to do the same things that it
costs people in smaller countries.

So you can compare your prices with ours all you want but its an invalid
comparsion. (essentially what it means is we paid as much as you then many
people couldn't even afford to go to work much less do much of anything
else).

Its true that many americans waste a lot of gas but the majority of gas used
in the industry. We also have developed a larger infrastructure to support
the lower prices. (think of supply and demand) There are also many other
reasons for lower gas prices as it supports growth.

If you are going to compare our gas prices with yours then at least do it
intelligently. Its much more complicated than you make it out to be.

Yeah, even that would be a small down payment on the cost of the US
military intervention that inevitably will be needed to secure the
middle east oil producers such as Saudi Arabia. After the US withdraws
from Iraq, in failure, the whole region is going up in flames.

Right, that's another good move. Those particular owners do not pay a
proportionate fair share of the infrastructural support subsidized by
government entities. It makes very good sense to eliminate the tax
deductions in that case.

Mike, I don't know where you're from or how things are conducted there - but
I agree with one reply to your post - the "illegals" have all handed to
them - and HERE - there IS a "property" tax. It is billed not by the state -
but the county. You don't pay it - you lose your home. Sheriffs sales are
running amuck.

Oh, and there are already plenty of taxes on gasoline, state and federal.

deduction on your house if its size is above 3000 sq.ft.

Mortgage? What is this thing you speak of called mortgage?

How do you get a deduction on 0% interest?

Rich folks will restructure their finances so as to preserve the tax
benefits. Poor folks can't afford 3000 sq foot houses, so this will bite
the middle class the hardest. The Democrats support is split between the
poor and the wealthy, so they don't give a crap about the folks in the
middle anyway.

So why does the "middle" vote Democrat?

Because the GOP frightened them off by getting into bed (or more
accurately, a restroom stall) with the wacko conservatives. The GOP used
to be the sane party when it had a more libertarian philosophy.

Isn't there a tax on a television set in the UK?

I think they call it the luxury tax, that just about
covers everything in the UK. I think even eating over
there is a luxury!

But then again, I could have my countries mixed up.

Oh, those damn rich people anyway, ;-) let's see if we can take
all the incentive out of the system.

And while we're at it, let's create a huge government program to
provide FREE health care for everyone! Might as well throw
illegal aliens into the free program.

** What do you mean, "might as well"??
Illegal mexicans get free medical, welfare, allowed to drive with no
insurance or license, etc ad nauseum.

And also, why should anyone own the house they bought.
Let's have the state send them a bill every year. Call it property tax.

I like the "Fair Tax"
Let people see the tax every time they
buy an item,
rather then have the nice IRS send them
money (refund).
Mike

Mike, I don't know where you're from or how things are conducted there -
but I agree with one reply to your post - the "illegals" have all handed
to them - and HERE - there IS a "property" tax. It is billed not by the
state - but the county. You don't pay it - you lose your home. Sheriffs
sales are running amuck.

You're correct, the county levies the property tax.
Did I mention taxes on your phone bill, land line and cell phone, taxes on
your cable tv bill.
Oh, and there are already plenty of taxes on gasoline, state and federal.

Off my rant now,
Mike

wait a minute, our local government is trying to push through side walk
tax. if it goes through, every resident in this city will be getting a
tax bill for side walk maintenance except those that are the on local
local assistant programs. ( and they're many!)

This came up in lo of many residents here now walking and using
bicycle's and not having that extra car any more.

Also, they are trying to push through a bill to force any one that
purchases a bicycle of 24" frame or larger, or get one of those
scooters that are under 50 CC that requires no registration to pay a
yearly USE tax.
Don't that just bite the bullet. We'll see just how far that goes.
the biggest problem we have in this area is far to many free programs
given to those that have absolutely nothing wrong with them. Not only
that. A good many free loaders have moved out from other remote
locations to take advantage of the free programs this city gives out and
thus has been forcing those that work and own property to sell (if they
can) and get out.
At the town meetings, they are all up in arms over tax paying
residents leaving town. Their solution? More taxes and only for those
that they don't want to leave.! real funny isn't it.

Sigh. No, it means that *every* penny I pay on my mortgage is to
repay the principal. What part of a ZERO interest rate don't you get?

Yeah, even that would be a small down payment on the cost of the US
military intervention that inevitably will be needed to secure the
middle east oil producers such as Saudi Arabia. After the US withdraws
from Iraq, in failure, the whole region is going up in flames.

Right, that's another good move. Those particular owners do not pay a
proportionate fair share of the infrastructural support subsidized by
government entities.

Oh, really? I pay around $8K per year in property taxes. Is that not
"proportionate", or do you think you have a right to STEAL even more?

It makes very good sense to eliminate the tax
deductions in that case.

Of course Eeyore doesn't pay taxes. He lives under a bridge, and

They pay for local services. There is at least a direct relationship.

Who supplies the street cleaners, rubbish collection and the like in the USA and
how do you pay for it ?

Street cleaners? You Brit moroons still haven't learned to put trash
in a trashcan? Around here, you have the coice of contracing a trash
hauler, or take it to the transfer station, a couple miles away.

The Nazi party never had a majority. A large minority yes, but not a
majority. More important was Hitler's appointment as chencellor.

Well, in my own case, in the next election, it's the only meaningful
protest against the slide into facism. Don't forget that Hitler was
*elected.* I used to vote Libertarian, but in the American

winner-take-all
system, that amounts to a wasted vote. Of course, given the present

state
of the Democratic party, it amounts to "Would you rather be hanged or

shot?"

STEAL is the appropriate word to use when referring to Republican party
controlled government. Now if you had a more humane and progressive
Democrat control, they are known to roll off property taxes for the elderly.

Some of the earliest documents surviving from colonial America are the
Book(s) of Roads, some dating back nearly 400 years. These were records
of road maintenance responsibility assigned to various land owners by
whose property the roads passed. The labor was not compensated, it was
considered a civic responsibility at the time.
