I've noticed. Why on earth do competant people never get put in charge?

Surely you get promoted when you're good at something?

and if your good at something why would they promote you to do something else because they'll have to find a replacement and if yuo're doing the jpob well why get rid of that person and replace them with someone that won;t be better.
Obviously it depends on the job.

Unfortunately I think you've hit the nail on the head.

news Why are councils re-laying all the cables and replacing all the
streetlamp
poles for no ****ing reason? All they needed to do was to change the
lamp
on the top. What a waste of millions of pounds of council taxes. The
cables worked fine. The poles were in perfect condition.

it's common for councils to deliberately waste money like this, because if
the government sees them having money left over at the end of a year they
will cut back on their subsidising. Thus the councils have to make out they
need every penny.
Councils use a variety of tricks to waste money, one being road humps.

Pity they don't "waste" it on a bit of road resurfacing...

I wish they'd road resurface LESS. It's a total waste of money. Cars do not
require a completely smooth surface. If we're expected to drive over 10cm
high speedbumps, then how is a 3cm pothole going to cause a problem?

Because you generally get notice of a speed bump and can slow down or
adjust how you go over it. Potholes are often not visible due to being
in a puddle or whatever. That's when damage gets done.

Maybe you should look where you're going. I've never had one single problem with a pothole. Even if I was to ignore it and drive straight over it, it's smaller than a speedbump by a factor of 3.

3cm potholes? Luxury - round here we can only *dream* of 3cm.

£100 a month council tax? What useful things do I get from this?
Bin collection, that's it.

If you bothered to look into it instead of bleating like a lazy ****
you'd find you get quite a bit more.

List me 5 useful things my council does for me that warrants paying them three times as much a month as you would pay Sky TV.

Whether the other things are what
voters think they should get is another matter, but since 70% of voters
are serially lazy ****s and don't vote in local elections, it's clear
that most people don't give a monkey's.

Voting for one of 5 people who have similar policies is not voting.

I don;t normally have a problem with them as I don;t drive but the lorry going through the last one that was full of water sprayed all over teh pedestrians walking past. As for cyclists and motor cyclist ....

Why don;t you lok at a website that tells you what your local concil does ?
Or you could list 5 things that yuo do that are useful to anyone else.

I'd agree there and I don't know if I'll be able to vote or not.

no proof, I just watch it happen, especially when there's heavy rain or
frost.

You must live on another planet, because I've never seen that happen. I've seen plenty roads with small potholes that just stay that way for a decade. In fact there's one on the main road in my town that's been there for the 15 years I've lived here.

I've noticed. Why on earth do competant people never get put in

Why would any competent person ever want to 'work' in a govt dept ?

It's easier.

You've clearly never had anything to with 'working' in one.

I've worked in private and public sector.

Obvious lie. Bludged, possibly.

It is not a lie.

There's no pressure to make a profit.

But impossible to get anything done.

Not true.

Fraid so.

Simply bend the rules.

Doesn't get anything done in a govt dept.

I got loads done, and was praised for avoiding petty rules.

Surely you get promoted when you're good at something?

Govt depts don't work like that, stupid.

Reason?

That's the way they are.

That's not a reason.

Corse it is.

I look where I'm going. Very few people have damaged their car on a pothole. In fact outside this newsgroup I only know of one, and she's a woman.

Because, Prof Hawkins, it's a black hole on a black road in the dark -
and in the rain you have no chance as they all look like puddles.
