It may be 'bleeding obvious' to you that eating organic will prevent you being sick or prematurely dead, but science, sadly, does not support you in that belief. Yeah, bet you said that about smoking, lead in petrol, paint .. the list is endless. The people who said that, many years ago incidentally, all had a vested interest. As regards organic food, there are masses of independent scientific studies by those with no axe to grind, none of which show any significant advantage tastewise or healthwise of organic produce over the equivalent conventional goods. Show me one that studied 70,000 volunteers. The numbers are irrelevant if the study does not include a control group. It's unscientific, probably self-selecting, and no valid conclusions can be drawn from it. Too many other factors are in play that have not been eliminated. You need to learn a bit about scientific method. You presented no proof of the methods used in this study. You made all that up. There's plenty enough to be going on with in the Reuters report: https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-he...-idUKKCN1MW23D If you want the full article: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...rticle/2707948 You should read the limitations set out in both, because effectivley they consign the study to the dustbin. You haven't studied this at all Norman because you missed the real biggie that there was correlation between this study and other studies and incidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and pesticide use. Wow wee! Yes Norman, did you deliberately miss this because it's obviously very interesting in light of the recent case about Monsanto's Roundup and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Why did you miss this Norman? Stay sharp Norman because there are cats about. Your lack of attention to detail will be exposed. Anyway, considering this huge omission we can safely conclude that your critique is worthless. No because if you follow the link to the actual study at: https://www.nature.com/articles/bjc2014148 you'll find: "Conclusions: In this large prospective study there was little or no decrease in the incidence of cancer associated with consumption of organic food, except possibly for non-Hodgkin lymphoma." So, no proof of any reduced cancer risk at all, certainly not 25% as in the thread heading, and only an unproven 'possibility' as regards non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It's not very impressive, is it? |

Hi Norman, Sadly, there is so much corruption and pay for results that you can not really tell what science supports and what it does not. What I can tell you is that I have a chemical sensitive in my family. Pesticides on conventional produce, with certain exceptions, makes that individual frighteningly sick. Organic, on the other hand, does not. Again with certain exceptions, mainly unbranded organic produce. And, by the way, it is not the farmers that are the major culprit, it is the packers. They ton on the chemicals. The math behind how insects can devour a truck load of vegis is the same math as used on an nuclear explosion. I personally am sensitive to sulfite. The reaction is not fit to describe in civil company, except to say that the last time I got a hold of some produce with sulfites on it, it was one of the worst days of my life. So there really is something toxic on conventional produce. But whether or not is a public hazard to most is not easy to determine because of all the corruption involved in studies. The number I hear kicking around is about 80% of studies are bogus. I suspect this one is too. So, flip a coin. Probably best to listen to the "canaries" is our society that react to conventional produce and judge whether you are at any long term risk yourself or not. You are not going to get it from science due to the corruption involved: pay for results. Science is in a sad state of affairs on such issues. -T |

People who eat organic 25 per cent less likely to get cancer

That is pay for results. For nutrition value, convention produce is better than production organic produce as organic production produce has to be picked much greener. Also, production organic produce does not really take great care of their soil. Better than conventional, but not a lot. Often production organic is grown on deplete soil. On the other hand, honest tests were not done on locally grown organic where produce is allowed to ripen properly and the soil is also nurtured properly. Believe it or not, soil is alive. It all depends on who pays for the study. Enough money and you can make that study say anything you want. What I will say is that home grown organic and locally grown organic tastes a hell of a lot better than conventional production produce. And my theory is that people don't eat their vegies because they taste like crap. Think of all the pay for results studies on red meat where they do not differentiate an oscar meyer hot dog from organic grass fed beef. You could as easily say all the health problems in these studies were caused by hamburger bums. |

Yup, used 1/20 the dosage of B vitamins that the original study used. The corruption is science these days is something to behold.
