Only under one condition - and that is if the science is unbiased. Science funded by multinational corporate businesses with profit as their priority from skewed scientific results is bogus science. They can channel the funding through as many offshore shell companies as they like, but it is still bogus science. It may be 'bleeding obvious' to you that eating organic will prevent you being sick or prematurely dead, but science, sadly, does not support you in that belief. You mean bogus science. Unbiased scientists who tend to come to an inconvenient conclusion (aka the truth) are ridiculed and humiliated by an expensive and high pressure media campaign, until they quit the job and take early retirement. You are so convinced by your own rhetoric that you believe everything that appears on the surface to confirm your absurd views even if it doesn't. I would consider that an improvement on being duped by the power of money. |

Hi Norman, Sadly, there is so much corruption and pay for results that you can not really tell what science supports and what it does not. What I can tell you is that I have a chemical sensitive in my family. Pesticides on conventional produce, with certain exceptions, makes that individual frighteningly sick. Organic, on the other hand, does not. Again with certain exceptions, mainly unbranded organic produce. And, by the way, it is not the farmers that are the major culprit, it is the packers. They ton on the chemicals. The math behind how insects can devour a truck load of vegis is the same math as used on an nuclear explosion. I personally am sensitive to sulfite. The reaction is not fit to describe in civil company, except to say that the last time I got a hold of some produce with sulfites on it, it was one of the worst days of my life. So there really is something toxic on conventional produce. But whether or not is a public hazard to most is not easy to determine because of all the corruption involved in studies. The number I hear kicking around is about 80% of studies are bogus. I suspect this one is too. So, flip a coin. Probably best to listen to the "canaries" is our society that react to conventional produce and judge whether you are at any long term risk yourself or not. You are not going to get it from science due to the corruption involved: pay for results. Science is in a sad state of affairs on such issues. -T |

In scientific terms, there is no control group in the trial. |

Cue Norman https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-he...r/organic-food s-tied-to-slightly-lower-cancer-risk-idUKKCN1MW23D The study doesn't show anything at all, and least of all that people who eat organic food are 25 per cent less likely to get cancer. Not even the researchers claim anything of the kind. Exactly. It might have been a bit more honest had the first line of the Reuters report been accurately quoted: "People who eat more organic foods may be slightly less likely to develop certain cancers, a French study suggests." And if all the hedging and provisos had been indicated too. Like: "researchers dont have a clear picture of whether organic foods free of these chemicals can help lower the risk of cancer" and "people who ate the most organic foods were more likely to be married, have higher income and education levels, consume less red and processed meat, and drink less alcohol". And you dont come under any of those categories? Never mind.... Better luck next time. You don't seem to realise that the point of that statement is that those factors are already associated with a reduced risk of cancer and that eating organic food has not itself been shown to reduce the risk. In scientific terms, there is no control group in the trial. Oooops, potential drop in perceived class status narrowly avoided. |

Cue Norman Back in the '60s, BigTobacco had paid professional liars in white lab coats testifying that smoking was good for us. Today, BigAgChem has paid professional liars in white lab coats testifying their patented GMO seeds and toxic farm chemicals are good for us. (We might have a BigAgChem shill right here in alt.home.repair) Hopefully, the recent ruling against Monsanto is only the beginning. |

Cue Norman In Thatcher's day fish fingers were made of cardboard. Since your government is now Conservative, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the "organic" food you import from Brazil is laced with organochlorides. Which are now legal here, thanks to the ruralist-backed right wing coup. The right-wing name for the process is "self-regulation". Ask Abetard or IQ = /dev/null. It's a GOOD thing. []'s Who says Brazil can't invent things ? Hitler was a pussy compared to our Bolsonaro.
