OT - Arthritis & Electric
I know some of you old guys have arthritis. I don't consider
myself old yet, but I've got it too. Diagnosed in the spine, years ago (and, of course, they can't tell what type). Also got bad joints, but they always claim they can't find anything wrong with any of them. If they didn't always run the same test everytime, they might find something. Anyway, for a long time, I've not been able to lift my arms up very high, straight out, or even straight up, and alway painful to even try. Today the kid's pups were trying to kill each other. By the way, got a deal for anyone - buy one pup, get 10 free. Go out, in stocking feet, to sort it out. Electric fence, suitable for cattle. Unhook the top wire so I can get in, bad hips too. So, sort it out, all the pups want to be petted. Sort of like being nibbled to death by baby ducks. Getting ready to leave, notice the top wire came loose. Use my handkerchief to pick it up and fasten it back. Wind up getting about 4 shocks. Finally got it hooked up, then back over the fence, and re-hook the top strand. Get back in the house, and notice the right shoulder isn't bothering me. Check it out, and find out it has more mobility than it's had in probly 10 years. Pain-free. I'd gotten a shock with the left hand some weeks ago, and noticed the same thing, but had just figured it was nothing. Who knows? I may have made a medical breakthru here. I'm almost tempted to go out and purposly shock my left hand, almost. But, I'm sensitive to electric shock, and don't think so, not on purpose. Reason I unhooked the finse in the first place, I've got bad hips, and last time I went over the fence, screwed up, and got one leg between the wires. That's one way to really wake up. Anyone else here had similar experiences? It's funny as Hell, to go outside, and see a small herd of pups run up to the corner of the fence, then sit down, in a V shaped line, almost exactly a foot from the fence. JOAT I will feel equality has arrived when we can elect to office women who are as unqualified as some of the men who are already there. - Maureen Reagan |

Hey, maybe you've got something JOAT! I've read about everything from people rubbing WD40 into the bad joints to taking "bee sting" trherapy. Who knows? It's obvious the pups know what that "zap" is all about. I've seen dairy cows with a single wire electric fence about 30" high get right down on their knees and crop just as far as they could stretch their nack under that wire without touching it. -- Nahmie "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'WOW! I think that is what these tinge units are all about. Now to take care of those hips heres what you do: After a couple of beers, as soon as the urge hits ya, head on out to the fence to take a wiz. That ought to take care of both hips at the same time. My dad says the same thing about the electric fence, he goes out and grabs it every once in a while to help his aches and pains. KY |

I have NO idea if these shocks would even come close to what TENS specs are in terms of milliamperage / wave form / cycles per second / pulse rate / pulse duration etc., etc., but there MIGHT be an explanation for what you experienced. Some (but not all) people get a degree of relief from chronic pain by using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). TENS units are widely used in the field of physical medicine / physical therapy / chiropractic. Perhaps you should consult your physician(s) about this. Anyone else here had similar experiences? I found an electric fence by peeing one time. Talk about waking you up. That'll bring you to your knees. The TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) units KH is talking about work by exciting the nreves to create what is called a gate effect. If the nreves are excited enough the pain impulses don't get through, kind of like white noise drowning out other noises. They aren't ANYTHING like the jolt you get off an electric fence. JOAT is so full of ****ing crap. He is an old geezer with not much left in him. Would
anyone really care if he became inflicted with severe, constant pain in his entire body? Not me. I would laugh by Goddamn balls off. |

Medtronic is a maker of a unit similar to the TENS unit but it is a direct
implant. I had one for a number of years and they can relieve a lot of pain. They are also adjustable so that as the pain increases, you can adjust the voltage up. You can also turn them on and off with a magnet, the control unit is typically placed in your hip at the beltline. A separate unit programs the controller for the desired voltage. I was being treated by a Pain Management specialist when mine was installed. They've got their good points but the one bad point is you can actually set the voltage high enough to disable yourself. Looking back on it, it was funny when it happened, but I was paralyzed until my wife finally came out and turn the bloody thing off. Check out http://www.medtronic.com and search for neurostimulation Good Luck!! Dave "Peter Shull" wrote in message ... "J T" wrote: I know some of you old guys have arthritis. Some of the newer patent examiners might let it issue. I've dealt with
some lately that are clueless, and don't speak the language well either. My grandmother had a really neat battery powered device which was, I believe, from the 19th century. It took the 6v and pumped it up to thousands of currentless volts and sent it into your body through two moistened leather pads. The new TENS units work on the very same principle, so JOAT is SOL on the new patent thing. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Life is full of little surprises. * Comprehensive Website Development --Pandora * http://www.diversify.com |

I have a wooden box with a device inside simular to the old crank telephone.
This was sold for treatment of Arthritis. We played with it at my Grandfather's some 70 years ago. Place one lead in a pan of water with a penny, hold the other lead and try to get the penny while companion cranked the device as hard as he could. I am coming into this offtopic late, but for what this is worth, etc. I was very recently diagnosed as having arthritis in both knees. I went to a physical therapist who used Ultrsound which sends a voltage not too unlike a vibrator. The therapist said Medicare doesn't pay for it, but he uses it anyway, because he knows it works, and, according to my knees, he is right. |
