Default Here's what happens when you get carless / kickback

It felt like I was kicked by a horse. Needless to say I learned my lesson by
working late at night when I was tired.
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN TO ME!!!

How did yours happen? Were you using a splitter? How big was the piece

I was cutting 1/2" plywood that was 6" wide. I thought I had it all the way
through. I apparently had another inch or so to go and I had my head in my
rear and took my right hand off of the board and whammo it got me. No more
late night stints for me.

Just for the record, I really hope Dave wasn't hurt too badly. And I'm
always telling my older son (who's a police officer and gym rat) that his
"six-pack" pales in comparison to my "keg".

On my system it looked like an email message attached to the note.
(eml extension rather than a normal graphic file extension). I
initially rejected it as probably malicious, but after seeing people
here talking about it and not complaining about their system crashing,
I let my email reader open it. Try assigning your email reader to the
..eml extension. Windows defaulted to assigning outlook express on my
system, but it works fine with Thunderbird.

I receive eml attachments all the time in Outlook Express. The message from
Dave didn't show any attachment to it. Wonder if it got stripped off in the
ISP server. I guess that I can live without viewing Dave's Keg and I have
been on the receiving end of a kicked back 2x4 into the ribs so am aware of
the danger and hurt!! Thanks, Alex.

"Upscale" posted a very disturbing, graphic image...

I remember well the nasty bruise I got from a kickback. Mine was on the
right side of the abdomen. It took weeks to heal too.

This makes my old injury look like a pimple or something. In terms of pure
ugliness, shape and location, this has got to win some kind of prize.

Where do we send flowers?

the image. I reposted it because it was originally posted in an .eml

However, it seems if you had

the kickback would not have happened.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the info Mark. I will be getting one from Grizz in a week or so
when I go to Springfield, Mo.
I went to my Dr to get it checked out and he did a blood count to see if my
white count was elevated to eliminate the possibility of internal bleeding.
I got a normal count. Thank the Lord. He called it a severe hematoma and was
advised to keep ice on it for 2 or 3 days. I felt that I should post the
picture in order that it would be a warning to others about being careless.

I got a severe hematoma once. It was very painful. My dentist nicked a blood
vessel while putting some novacaine in me. I ended up with a very large
ball bulging out from my neck. Between the pain meds, ice and a lot of rest,
most of it went away in about three days. It took about a week before
normalcy was restored. I have no desire to repeat that experience again.

Good to see that the only real injury was to your pride. Those kinds of
injuries are far better than other kinds. And try to not do any heavy
lifting for a few days. ;-)

Back in the farrier days of my youth, shoeing horses to pay for school, I
did exactly that to a "world champion" paint horse ... and right before a
big show.

The horse was a real booger to shoe, she had injured a number of farrier's,
and no one else around town would work on her. I had used Acepromazine, a
tranquilizer which had to be administered intravenously, on her successfully
in the past just to get her ready for the show ring, but this time I nicked
her jugular and within a few hours she had a basketball sized hematoma on
the side of her neck.

Mortified as I was, the owner's were surprisingly philosophical about it. I
still shudder when I think about it. Probably get sued to hell and back in
this day and age.

Kickbacks will travel at approximately the same speed as the tips of the blade
teeth. On a typical 10" saw, that's about 110 mph.

Thanks for the pointer...worth noting that the $55 is for the
featherboard AND the holddown. Added to my wishlist for next time
I have a few spare sheckles.

Did it hurt the baby???

Wow, my hubby had his appendix out a couple of months ago, it didn't look
that bad.

Good thing you're ok! I'm going to show him this photo though, I'm always
griping at him about safety.
