Default Waking up every day with insect bites on my legs

I rent in Central London

I leave the window open (always - for ventilation)

I am 6 floors up.

I have thoroughly cleaned the room. (the entire building itself is VERY
clean and VERY well maintained)

I guess insects must be coming though the window (although I never see
them)

Should I buy some chemicals to nuke everything on the carpet?

Should I put some sort of net around the window?

If this is only just started and he's been in the flat some time? I doubt
it has anything to do with the LL.

The message

I take it ,by the fact that you havent't mentioned it,that you don't
have a cat
..Has there ever been a cat in the flat ..Flea eggs can rest dormant
in carpets
and behind skirtings until CH gets switched on during cooler times and
they then
come alive and can bite like buggery .

And can lurk for months at the least, sometimes more.

If you are 6 floors up I guess that it isn't cats getting in and
leaving fleas as they seem to be abundent at this time of the year,
fleas not cats.

Ain't they just. Our cats have been free for two years - up till last weekend.

Can anyone recommend any UK products/shops? I need to nuke any fleas in

A steamer works well. The little sods don't like being parboiled.

I used a cat flea powder from the local pet shop. Sprinkled on the bed and
carpet and left for a day then hoovered it always worked.

I've also used a natural pyrethrum horse louse/mite powder from the feed
store, that worked too.

Spouse hates the smell of both but I hate being bitten and sometimes we can
pick up fleas from other people or their pets.

Or get a cat :-)

Cat fleas only bother humans when their preffered host isn't available.

When visiting cat left fleas at my parents' abode, Mum was pregnant and
didn't want to use any chemicals.

Someone advised the family to apply vegetable oil to the ankles to stop
the fleas getting any foothold. This seemed to work.

Stuart,

This sounds like the mostly likely situation.

I took over tenancy of this room in June. I don't have any pets.

Can anyone recommend any UK products/shops? I need to nuke any fleas in

Yip.....I'd put money on it being cat fleas then .I had cats and ,thank
goodness, rarely had trouble with fleas but they did bite me around the ankle
/lower leg are .I had to treat my cats with some expensive stuff but you do not
have that problem .I also had to buy an aerosol from the vets to treat carpets
beds etc .The stuff you can buy in pet shops is ,imho, useless. What you want is
a stuff called Indorex, made by a company called Virbac .It's not exactly cheap
but it sure works and lasts a while ,altho' it smells awful.

It must be used exactly as instructed .

Also at the same time wash anyhting that you can to get rid of the little
blighters .

This is possible, while cat fleas can survive with human blood, they
do require a cat (principle host) in order to reproduce. However,
the lifetime can be several weeks so although the problem will
disappear eventually, it can take a while.

The best solution is to visit a local vet and buy some flea killer
intended for carpets and furnishings. They tend to have the more
potent stuff, whereas the ordinary shops tend to have fairly feeble
products.

Good idea.

You can catch bugs and fleas if you can see them with a wet bar of soap.

Man goes into chemist in Sweden and asks to buy some deodorant.

Chemist: "Would you like ball or aerosol?"

Man: "Neither. I want it for under my arms"
