Carpet in an environment that is going to range from damp to wet is
not good. Curiously, the UK seems to be about the only country in
Europe that does it.

This is just a myth. Fact is carpets do fine in such environments, as
long as its a suitable carpet. Obviously one needs to clean the
carpet, just as you would with any floor surface, to keep it nice and
hygienic. And they feel far nicer underfoot that icky vinyl/lino.

The 2 places carpets make most difference is bedroom and bathroom,
becuse thats where you have bare feet.

Blimey. You surbubanite.

I am happily looking forward to the patio being paved so I can walk the
whole garden in bare feet, and if possible once the hedges are grown,
bollock naked as well.

Does anyone know where I can get surplus Ack Ack? The hang gliders are
getting inquistive again, but have l;earnt to stay out of shtgun range ;-)

The fear of bathroom carpets comes from the odd case of someone
fitting it and never cleaning it. Disgusting. The fear spreads by
association rather than reason, and failure to realise the stunningly
obvious fact that you need to keep it clean just like any other floor.

Been there done that, and junked it. Its OK if its me or thee, but the
kids visiting leave it a sodden mess.

Tiles and laminate clean easily as does Vinyl. Heat teh bathroom
properly and you will luxuriate in warm tiles.

And in any case when you are buying a house, furniture is removed so
shouldn't affect the price, and carpets can be. Really can't see why one
has to fit what you think others *might* like just to get a sale.

The inability of many buyers to think. Why else?

Regards, NT

Any colour except white.

The one I just tore out was "cranberry".

The one in the en-suite (7 years gone) was "avacado". (I got £50 for
it, too!)

I rather liked avocado.

Still with an eye on resale value, all white, and Tasteful Tiles.

I never look at it anyway. juts wallow in it, vomit down it, or crap on it.

Spend more time looking at the floor and ceiling...

Both replaced with white.

If you want a coloured bathroom, paint the walls!

This is one of the main reasons why I dislike it. You can't get decent
stereo imaging in a room that is too lively - indeed the more 'dead' it is
the better the image will be. And music tends to be balanced with adequate
accoustic (reverb) without more being added due to the room. (A good
control room will approximate in reverb time to the average living room -
but one fairly well stuffed with heavy furnishings.)

So the only practical way to get a domestic room half decent acoustically
is with a thick fitted carpet and thick drapes for the windows.

Actually Dave, you can do pretty well with lot of angles and niches too.

Qute by accident, I found that a timber framed room,. with open
fireplace, beams expiosed above, and laminate (real wood plus rugs) and
of course mantdaory decent curtans, does really well. Its a little
harder than ideal, but a bit of suckout in the mid range (pretty much
acxhved using 2-way speakers) suits it well.

Given that IMM's geographical knowledge is so good that he thinks
Chesterfield is in the Peak District, it would seem that the safest way of
ensuring you don't have him as a neighbour would require the simple
expedient of giving him the correct address. He will then go somewhere
completely different in the mistaken belief that it is the same place.
