Default Eric Bramwell jailed 22 years for stealing universal *televisionremote control* !

Is this story a joke or what?

Eric Bramwell stole the remote from the shared common area at his
apartment complex in Wheaton, in the DuPage County in Illinois.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the stolen television remote was the
last straw as Bramwell was known as a serial thief.
The 35-year-old was found guilty in November after his DNA was found on
a glove that was dropped in the apartment after the theft of the
universal television remote, which was stolen in August 2015.

Go read the court documents, which are public and most likely online,
for the answer. If he steals a television remote in prison he will
probably get an ass whippin'

"Judge Robert Miller €“ who handed down the 22-year sentence Wednesday €“ previously gave Bramwell a six-month sentence for contempt in November after Bramwell told the judge, €œF--k you, go suck my d--k and go f--k yourself,€ DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin says."

Probably not a smart idea to say that to the judge.

"Bramwell was indicted by a grand jury on two counts. The first €“ for the theft of the TV remote €“ featured DNA evidence on a glove, so the prosecutors office decided not to take to trial the second count for a subsequent burglary at the same building.

€œIn the interest of justice, we decided not to proceed on [count two],€ Berlin says. The second count, however, was presented at Bramwell's sentencing as an aggravating factor.

The prosecutor says Bramwell, after his arrest for stealing the TV remote, confessed to committing a total of 60 burglaries in the area, though Berlin says Bramwell did argue he was innocent at trial."

And he can be out in just 11 years if he learns his lesson, reforms
and behaves himself. What people fail to realize is the huge emotional
toll this puts on those 60 burglary victims. Maybe if Bod had his house
broken into, his personal things taken, he'd begin to understand. And
of course if this guy were given 6 months, left to his ways and finally
had an encounter with some homeowner where either the homeowner wound
up dead or Bramwell wound up dead, Bod would be here bitching about that.

Some states have habitual criminal or three-strike laws. No sire

Bramwell's criminal history made him eligible for Class X sentencing
although HE DID NOT COMMIT ANY Class X crime.

He was just an unarmed burglar. If he was rich, he'd be called a
kleptomaniac and given a prescription.

The following charges are Class X felonies in Illinois:

Aggravated kidnapping, 720 ILCS 5/10-2.
Aggravated battery with a firearm, 720 ILCS 5/12-4.2(a)(1).
Aggravated battery of a child, 720 ILCS 5/12-4.3(a).
Home invasion, 720 ILCS 5/19-6.
Aggravated criminal sexual assault, 720 ILCS 5/12-14.
Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child (over 17 years of
age and victim under 13 years old), 720 ILCS 5/12-14.1(1).
Armed robbery, 720 ILCS 5/18-2.
Aggravated vehicular hijacking, 720 ILCS 5/18-4.
Aggravated arson, 720 ILCS 5/20-1.1.
Possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver
(such as 15-100 grams or possession with intent to deliver within
1,000 feet of a public park, church, school, or public housing), 720
ILCS 570/401.

Bramwell, 35, will be required to serve at least half of his 22-year
sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.

She messed up the hospital's routine, so we fired her.

A burglar who admitted to 60 previous burglaries. I mean, at some
point, isn't enough, enough? He can be out in 11 years if he wises
up. Doesn't sound too extreme to me.

Maybe so. I guess he should have saved the proceeds from the
60 burglaries? We should let him keep going, until he meets up
with an unexpected homeowner and the homeowner winds up dead?

sounds about right to me. Why should decent, honest working people

No, not smart, stoooopid, but not a felony
"Bramwell was indicted by a grand jury on two counts. The first €“ for the theft of the TV remote €“ featured DNA evidence on a glove, so the prosecutors office decided not to take to trial the second count for a subsequent burglary at the same building.

€œIn the interest of justice, we decided not to proceed on [count two],€ Berlin says. The second count, however, was presented at Bramwell's sentencing as an aggravating factor.

Bloody Klepto !!! Still not a felony.

The grand jury and the trial jury obviously disagreed.

22 years !!!
We had a nurse at the hospital who managed to steal over 100
items in a year, anything from the clothes iron to pens, pans and
doctor's stamps.
She messed up the hospital's routine, so we fired her.
Seriously, 22 years. I wonder how much kickback the judge got
from that ?

Given his extensive record, that he admitted to 60 other burglaries,
and that if he wises up and behaves he can be out in 11 years, it
sounds about right to me. Why should decent, honest working people
have to put up with this career criminal?

But a 22 year sentence !?

Eric Bramwell stole the remote from the shared common area at his

According to the Chicago Tribune, the stolen television remote was
the last straw as Bramwell was known as a serial thief.
The 35-year-old was found guilty in November after his DNA was found
on a glove that was dropped in the apartment after the theft of the
universal television remote, which was stolen in August 2015.

Or this:

Ok, they said he qualified for a *class X* punishment.

So which of these class X offences did he commit?

The following charges are Class X felonies in Illinois:

Aggravated kidnapping, 720 ILCS 5/10-2.
Aggravated battery with a firearm, 720 ILCS 5/12-4.2(a)(1).
Aggravated battery of a child, 720 ILCS 5/12-4.3(a).
Home invasion, 720 ILCS 5/19-6.
Aggravated criminal sexual assault, 720 ILCS 5/12-14.
Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child (over 17 years of age and
victim under 13 years old), 720 ILCS 5/12-14.1(1).
Armed robbery, 720 ILCS 5/18-2.
Aggravated vehicular hijacking, 720 ILCS 5/18-4.
Aggravated arson, 720 ILCS 5/20-1.1.
Possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (such as
15-100 grams or possession with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a
public park, church, school, or public housing), 720 ILCS 570/401.

None. He was sentenced under the habitual offender law, which applies
Class X sentencing to repeat offenders. Got it now? Probably not.

That is exactly what he was sentenced under, IL habitual offender law.

You're the nut. Nothing we do here is right. If this career criminal
was allowed to go on to his 61st burglary and he wound up surprising
some homeowner, with one or the other winding up dead, why then you'd
be here bitching about that. Enough is enough. Why should 60 families

IMO the idea of punishment as a deterrent and that of rehabilitation as
a re-education misses the mark. First and foremost, predators on a
society should be separated from that society. These other aspects are
secondary considerations.

We send a message. When you die we bury you standing up. After 1,503
years we put you in a box and bury you horizontal. Nothing wrong with
that and he completes his payment to society.

Go figure. You're probably reading the same news source about our gun
issues.

Even so, a 22 year sentence is ridiculous, IMO.

....but your opinion doesn't matter.

Is this story a joke or what?

Eric Bramwell stole the remote from the shared common area at his
apartment complex in Wheaton, in the DuPage County in Illinois.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the stolen television remote was
the
last straw as Bramwell was known as a serial thief.
The 35-year-old was found guilty in November after his DNA was
found on
a glove that was dropped in the apartment after the theft of the
universal television remote, which was stolen in August 2015.

Go read the court documents, which are public and most likely online,
for the answer. If he steals a television remote in prison he will
probably get an ass whippin'

"Judge Robert Miller €“ who handed down the 22-year sentence Wednesday
€“ previously gave Bramwell a six-month sentence for contempt in
November after Bramwell told the judge, €œF--k you, go suck my d--k and
go f--k yourself,€ DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin says."

Probably not a smart idea to say that to the judge.

"Bramwell was indicted by a grand jury on two counts. The first €“ for
the theft of the TV remote €“ featured DNA evidence on a glove, so the
prosecutors office decided not to take to trial the second count for
a subsequent burglary at the same building.

€œIn the interest of justice, we decided not to proceed on [count
two],€ Berlin says. The second count, however, was presented at
Bramwell's sentencing as an aggravating factor.

The prosecutor says Bramwell, after his arrest for stealing the TV
remote, confessed to committing a total of 60 burglaries in the area,
though Berlin says Bramwell did argue he was innocent at trial."

And he can be out in just 11 years if he learns his lesson, reforms
and behaves himself. What people fail to realize is the huge
emotional
toll this puts on those 60 burglary victims. Maybe if Bod had his
house
broken into, his personal things taken, he'd begin to understand. And
of course if this guy were given 6 months, left to his ways and finally
had an encounter with some homeowner where either the homeowner wound
up dead or Bramwell wound up dead, Bod would be here bitching about
that.

Ah, the newspaper report that I saw didn't mention the 60 burglaries
or the verbal abuse to the Judge. Norty newspapers!

No, it's not. That's justice for repeat/habitual offenders. My only
problem with it is my tax dollars contributing to his upkeep.

I'm sure that there will be ass-related stuff long before he steals the
remote.

There is no suck thing as rehabilitation. Bleeding heart liberals
think there is though.

You have a *blow em away, bang em up* culture.
