I have a walker and a cane but I'm stuck in a wheelchair. It's very frustrating and something you may experience one day so you shouldn't make fun of it. When I was a young man, I never treated the elderly or disabled with disrespect and would go out of my way to help them. I do recommend that you ask a disabled person if it's OK if you help them since some of them are stubborn like me and want to open a door or pick up a package by themselves. Always offer to help little old ladies because they always thank you. The little old Black ladies will say,"Thank you baby." I don't wish disability on my worst enemy (I want them to burn in Hell) but youngsters will one day be oldsters so don't make fun of anyone who has a difficult time getting around or you'll burn in Hell. ”Œ( à²*_à²*)”˜

You may find it best mounted vertical to hold as you enter/exit the shower.

That's what I did. One thing I DON'T need is my wife saying "I told
you so" when either she or I are laid up after a slip/fall and the bar
comes loose in hand!!!!

You are going to install a suction cup mount so your wife can pull herself
up and out of her chair?

Methinks that's a really terrible idea.

I agree with that. It may work, but they are designed to steady
yourself, not to act as a pull bar.

My wife uses the horizontal bar in back of the shower when getting up.

To be more precise, she will get up out of the chair using the arms of
the chair to help her stand up. After she opens the shower door, she
will then use the grab bar to steady herself as she walks out of the
shower.

That is the big problem with suction cups, environmental changes
combined with cleanliness and chemistry cause the cups to lose vacuum

If you reapply them before using them each day, you will "probably" be
safe.

Mine stayed in place about a year at a time. Have you ever used one?
If so, tell me about your experience, if not you should learn more about
them.

Suction cups are used every day by glass and granite installers. They
may need an "occasional* adjustment or maintenance, but not everyday.

Sample @ Amazon:

(better ones cost way more)

But that's not a life safety issue...

Wait a minute, it was with the maroon who climbed Trump tower. Of he

I'd like to do that eventually. Use of this device gives me a chance to
determine where I would actually want to install the grab bar. One issue
is that this grab bar would go on the wall where the shower head and
faucet handles are located and I'm not sure where the studs are.

In some houses, there is an access panel on the other side of the faucet wall
so the shower plumbing can be serviced. If you have an access panel, you
should be able to see the studs. If not, you could open the wall and
then add a trimmed out access panel for future use.

You can make your own and trim it out to match your other trim or you
can buy pre-made access panels, e.g.

https://www.amazon.com/Oatey-34044-A.../dp/B005SRVJ0U

Obviously, the location of the panel and how it fits in with the layout
of your rooms would factor into that decision.

The problem here is that the other side of the faucet wall is also
covered with tile so I would have to rip all of that out so that
approach is really not feasible.

I guess that depends on your definition of "not feasible" and I'm pretty
sure you wouldn't have to rip it *all* out.

You can buy inlay access panels that allow you to install tile.
