wax ring is a wrong size? and is hitting the johnny bolt?? I really

Take it out and reinstall it, with a fresh ring. Recommend using a
rubber one instead of wax- they are easier for inexperienced users. If
floor is level and flange is level, the likely cause is a bolt in
cockeyed, or the ring floated around and toilet is not sitting square on
the flange.

Worst case scenario- pay a plumber or handyman the 50 bucks to do it for
you, and watch and pay attention. If you don't want to get laughed at,
pull it and pretend you didn't install it wrong, but your back is acting
up and you can't lift it. (They are heavy, if tank and bowl are connected.)

You said the floor is level but is that your eyeball telling you that or is
it what your level is telling you?

Generally speaking, the top of the bowl is parallel with the bottom of the
bowl so if the floor is level and the base of the bowl is sitting on the
floor then the top would have to be level.

You should be able to see really quick if the bottom of the bowl is not
flush against the floor.

Wax rings are cheap, so if you really want to get to the bottom of this
mystery of yours pull the toilet and check the floor for level. If that is
OK then without the wax ring installed set the toilet in place. (Taking the
tank off the bowl will make things much easier.) then check it for level.

Next if those tests are OK then reset the bowl on a new wax ring and recheck
for level.

If it passes that test then set the tank on the bowl and check that for
level.

Last step would be to put the lid on the tank and check that.

Sometimes the tank is installed cock-eyed...check the level of the
bowl and remove the tank lid and check it for being level.

The toilet may settle down to the floor, through use. I'd
give it a day or two before doing anything drastic. Might be
too much wax on one side.

toilet is not leveled with 'level'..I will do what you say.. I will

1. Wax rings are a standard size.
2. If the floor is level, it should be obvious that the toilet is not
sitting on the floor properly. Get down on your knees and LOOK for
gaps around the bottom.
3. You leveled the floor with a level. Why don't you level the toilet
with a level too? Level it at the seat, and at the top of the tank. If
it's level with a level, then the "lopsided" look is in your head.
4. Make sure the tank bolts are tightened evenly. You will see the
seat showing level, and the tank showing off level. That means you
didn't tighten the bolts to the tank evenly. Loosen the bolt on the
low side slightly, and tighten the bolt on the high side.

And if it settles, snug up the bolts again.

Actually you can try loosening the bolt on the low side of the toilet.
They can go cockeyed if one side is tightened too much.

If the flush throat on the bottom of the bowl is not seated in the wax
ring correctly, it would be lopsided. Pouring water down the bowl
would show up as a leak on the floor.

somewhat lopsided ... Bought a new wax ring, installed toilet and put
a shim under one side.. Took level and found it to be 100% level...
Flushed toilet and toilet began to leak on side of shim.... Removed
shim, flushed toilet, no leak... Toilet still lopsided.... Looks like
there is a defect in the "China" -

I would now contact the supply house and ask for a replacement bowl as yours
has a factory defect.

If they balk at this, then take your case to American Standard.

I agree the waxless is a better choice, however, I tried one and it
would not seat deep enough into the sewer pipe and rested about 2"
above the flange. The sewer pipe has a sweeping bend so the waxless
would only go so far into the pipe. I thought if they made one that
flexed, it would allow me to use it. I recall adjusting the thing as
short as possible (?), but no joy. Seems they where one size fits all.
