Default Talking about Target stores

AS i was driving around this season to buy gifts, I did notice that
at 2 different Target Stores i past by. Very Very little business
seem to be going on there. Parking lot had lots of room for car's..
Most other places around us were very busy...
I understand Target is a French owned Company ? If so, then maybe
it's the reason why they were not getting as much business as they
should have been. I understand there is a lot of bad feelings with
the French at the moment here in the States.

A lot of people were boycotting Target stores after their ban of any
charity from their parking lots a few years ago. The biggest was
Salvation Army, along with their traditional kettles for people to drop
coins in as they pass. Locally, they refused to work with any group,
even though it wouldn't have cost them a cent. The local veterans have
a program during the summer called "Stuff the Bus" where an old military
bus is parked for a couple hours so people can donate school supplies to
be distributed to the elementary schools for low income families. Every
place except Target let them use their parking lot. They claim that its
a "liability" issue, but it is a huge public relations mistake.

No, it is not. It is a U.S. company, headquarters in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange as TGT.

There is an old joke, "I buy my clothes at an exclusive French store," and
then the name "Target" is pronounced with a French accent, so it comes out
"tar-JHAY".

Wish I could say the same about the Target stores around here. I hate
waiting in line . . . The Target stores here have been going like
gangbusters since Turkey Day.

I think this was about as effective as the lettuce boycott of the '60's,
meaning that it wasn't.

I thought it was originally a Dayton (then Dayton-Hudson) Department
Store chain. You can read about it he

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Corporation

But I suppose that, to some people, Ohioans are a lot like Frenchmen.

They don't want to be sued by the local Jihad charity group
because of descrimination.

It's sad. Here we have Big Kmart. That store is like a library. Nobody
is in there, but across town Walmart is full, parking lot is full, store
is full, lines are ridiculous. And Walmart HAS Salvation Army at the
doors. Of course I don't give them anything, I hate beggars.

I was told that Target actually did commercials where they called
*themselves* Tarzhay, in order to sound more fashionable.

I don't know if this is true or if this was before or after they
started using a target as a logo.

I think that's where Jamie got the idea.

The lettuce and grape boycott got most or several of the big
California growers to sign contracts with the UFW. It fell apart a
few years later, but I don't know why.

You should hope boycotts work, because it is the only leverage that
almost anyone has.

Same in Tulsa, in fact they are quite busy all year while Sears right next
door sits with a nearly empty parking lot most of the time. RM~

Our local Target store was packed, and their sales figures
don't reflect any problems.

Some of us appreciate corporations that have the integrity
to treat all charitable organizations equally. The Salvation
Army is a self-proclaimed "evangelistic christian organization".
Many people prefer secular charities. But frequently the
Salvation Army was the ONLY charity allowed to solicit. Our
local Salvation Army helps people who commit to their CHRISTIAN
"bootstrap" program and discourages everybody else. Why should
they be given all the charitable collection advantages?

You are absolutely right. In fact, they should put machine guns in all
of their parking lots and shoot anyone who dares to smile, or utter
those banned words, "Merry Christmas". They shouldn't recognize the
holiday season, and close down from the end of October, till the end of
January to make sure none of their products are given as gifts, as well.

What? The bible says love they neighbor, but it also tells you that
in a war you are to "Destroy your enemy, every man, woman and child,

I bet that if Al-Qaeda started reading the bible we would be in
really serious trouble!

Wouldn't they have to learn to read, first?

That bunch of fags can't stay out of each others pants or out from under
their camels, donkeys, horses, dogs, and any other "male" figure - long
enough to learn how to read.

Instead of being dubbed Al-Qaeda, they should call themselves - Al-Queero.

Not a one of them has the balls to face a man "man to man" in a battle. I'd
pay good money to have a go round with Osama by himself - no weapons - just
good ole fashion ass kicking style. I bet I could show all those wussies
what sort of leader he really "isn't". He doesn't look like he is man
enough to whip his way out of a wet paper bag with holes already in it. Some
leader................... If it weren't for his money and his lips - he
probably wouldn't be/have squat. And, even if I lost the fight with ole blow
hard, at least he would prove to me he actually has some guts. It would be
worth it to see if he really does. BUT, I'll never have to worry about
that - the puss is too busy hiding. Yeah, they have to be good at the
bombs - too yellow to do it right.
The only virgins they're going to get for being Martyrs - are male..........

I doubt it. It doesn't slow down the christian fundamentalist
much.

I think you are confusing those who hide behind a bible they don't
believe in, just to get tax exempt status, to pull their con jobs and
spread hatred, with people who truly believe what they have read.

Groups like this one, run by Fred Phelps:
http://www.godhatesfags.com/ that was disrupting funerals of soldiers
killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and claiming that the soldiers deserved
to die because they should have been at home rounding up all the
homosexuals. The last I heard, 18 states had passed laws making it
illegal to disrupt a military funeral.

This is a cult, or mob, hiding behind religious freedom to spread
their hatred.

OTOH, the people at a small church near me almost lost their building
by over extending themselves financially to help Katrina victims to
relocate to our area. It was so bad that several members took out
second mortgages on their homes to save their church. These people had
some of the Katrina victims as house guests, and helped others find
apartments, or mobile homes to rent, and spent weeks making sure they
found jobs. They also claim the tittle of Fundamentalist. All
"Fundamentalist" really means is that you take the entire bible, not
just what fits your needs.

The four tornados that tore through the Central Florida area
yesterday? Two churches opened their doors as free public shelters
within hours.

Today, the Red Cross has stepped in and are taking full credit for
all of the aid the more than 400 people are receiving, even though the
churches are footing the bills to house them. Mobile homes, apartment
buildings and site built homes were all damaged or destroyed, to the
extent they are talking federal aid. The area was already hard to find
homes for sale or any place to rent, so it will be a while before things
will be anything close to normal for these people. The miracle is that
not one person died.

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me that the "RED CROSS" is "trying" to take
credit. They can be a pushy bunch. I've been close enough to them - in
training and so on - but after getting a good taste of what they really
wanted - I said to hell with it. They couldn't pay me enough to take their
bull ****.

They're not "all that" - as they would like to think. I don't care if I was
burned out - I can do better off without their charity. They don't offer
crap - so far as I am concerned.

They had a food truck near here a couple years ago, after one of the
hurricanes. The hot meals they promised were usually several hours late,
and there was no gasoline availible, so you couldn't afford multiple
trips. I spent up to four hours waiting for a singfle hot meal each day.
The rest of the time I lived on Peanut butter and crackers, or cans of
SPAM. Prior to that, I spent close to 10 days in an emergency county
shelter for the disabled at a local high school. The food was better,
but it was all high in calories from sugar and high in fats. I'm
diabetic, and have high blood pressure, so between the two of them had
me quite ill for months as I readjusted to my normal diet, and air
condtioning. Its time to use up all my emergency rations, and start
restocking for next hurricane season.

Yea, they are profiteering scum. Even back in WWII they got people in
the states to make gloves to give to the troops, which they then SOLD to
the troops.

Learn your world history. The Muslims preserved ancient
knowledge while the Christians were burning and destroying
everything. Question their moral authority if you want,
but not their literacy.

OK - so to keep in the theme - you Michael - are a real card!

Our Fire Department has bingo one night a week. I don't know HOW - anyone
can sit for that length of time! Man oh man - my butt would be sore as hell.
I work it and I sit in a leather chair and even at that - I have a time of
it sitting that long. I have to get up several times just to keep my butt
from going numb.

Lou, my sense of humor is real, and it has served me well over the
last six years as my job disappeared, my health failed, and I was
declared 100% disabled. Without it, I probably wouldn't still be here.

As far as working the Bingo games, I haven't been well enough, but I
do some other things for the group. I know what you mean about sitting.
I have circulation problems in my legs I can't stand very long, and I
can't sit very long. It drives other people crazy, but what can you do?

I was called up for Jury duty recently. The summons state that they
required a letter from your doctor to be excused, or that you are 65 or
older. My VA doctor refused to sign, because I wasn't scheduled to be in
the hospital on that day.

I dragged myself to the courthouse before daylight, where the clerk
told me, "Oh, you only need to show us papers that you are 100% disabled
before the day you are to appear, and you are excused for life!" I was
excused about lunchtime, after countless trips around the waiting room,
and trips to the rest room, because of the high blood pressure medicine,
and diuretics. What a strange day.

Yes, DAV #85 does play bingo, Saturday mornings and Monday evenings.

OK - so to keep in the theme - you Michael - are a real card!

Our Fire Department has bingo one night a week. I don't know HOW - anyone
can sit for that length of time! Man oh man - my butt would be sore as
hell.
I work it and I sit in a leather chair and even at that - I have a time
of
it sitting that long. I have to get up several times just to keep my butt
from going numb.

Man, that had to suck!

I used to climb two way radio towers, work on 60 foot ladders wile
installing commercial sound systems, and in a work basket over high lift
forklifts. When I was young, I delivered those '60s and '70s console
color TVs by myself, sometimes to a third floor, without an elevator. I
worked about 12 hours a day, 8 for pay, and 4 or more in my home shop.
I never planned to retire. Instead, I was planning to keep working in my
1200square foot home shop by repairing antique electronics, and doing
contract assembly work building prototypes for a number of small
companies. That ended with the long term illness, and having most of my
shop equipment destroyed by two years of hurricanes doing damage to the
shop building.

Then, almost two years ago I got that letter from the VA, awarding my
100% disability. Let me tell you that it was a real blow to read the
line, "It is obvious that due the the list of medical problems, and his
age, this person will never be able to work again." Talk about mixed
blessings. Even though it would pay most of the bills, it was one of the
worst days of my life. That's why I crack all of the bad jokes, and
some days I have almost zero tolerance for the idiots and trolls.

Totally understandable. Well, I wish you all the best - and keep doing what
ever it is you're doing.
