Barbed wire.

No, not a fence. Wad up enough of it to cover the material
in the bin. Cats don't like to walk on all that pointy
stuff.

Last week, I noticed water in the bottom of my A2 tub. WTF? The metal had
REALLY corroded bad. Stunk too. So I pressure washed it out, dried in the
sun and sprayed down with LPS.

This morning I walk down, and a different tub has liquid in it. One sniff
told me the source. SOCKS! My SO's favorite cat. If I tell my honey to
choose between Socks and me, I'll be a lookin' for a new place to live. The
shop is his place, he allows me in if I keep fresh food and litter boxes.

So what could I put in the tubs to either make the cat not pee there
(impossible I think). Or something to keep my stock from corroding to death
when he does his thing next time?

My pecker to where? My point is the current flowing through your, my or
the cat's pecker is determined by the total resitance of the circuit.
Dry foot pads on a metal surface will limit the current from a nine volt
battery to something very small. Having an FET VOM, a scope and a nine
volt battery somewhere around here, I'll engage in a little hands on
rather than speculation and get back to you. The only thing I don't
have is a cat. Darn.

Touch one to your tongue and tell me you are OK with that
kind of current going through your own pecker, Bob.
I dare ya.

What about a web cam? Got one of those?

No web cam and when I went to the zip lock bag of batteries in the
fridge, no 9 volt. It'll have to wait for tomorrow. Anyway, I didn't
say I planned to pee on the 9 volt. I may just touch it to the tongue -
one pole, with the other pole connected to a piece of metal I'm standing
on. On the other hand I might just...

You could cover the tubs.

Maybe mothballs would keep the cat out.

Cats also hate the smell of Ben Gay ointment. I don't know what
is in the ointment that give it its characteristic oder.

Well, considering urine likes to break up into droplets, this is quite true.

Come on guys, five replies and none of the posters saw Mythbusters' third
rail experiment?!

Enlighten us, Tim. Maybe most of us have better things to do with
our time than watch the tube.
When I was in High School we built various electronic doodads,
including primitive one-transistor inverters that used the 1.5 DC
volts from a D cell, and ran the oscillated signal into the secondary
of an old audio transformer from a small tube-type radio. The primary,
which had many turns of wire, produced enough voltage to get
interesting reactions from the unwary.
My teacher told me of an incident in which one of these was used
in the guys' dressing room, hidden behind the toilet next to the
shower room. With one fine copper wire in the can and the other lying
on the floor, which was wet, of course, and well-salted. Sure enough,
one guys gets out of the shower, splashes over to the can, and makes
the connection. Must have been drilling it in pretty good to avoid
stream breakup. Or maybe he was sitting down. What with spastic muscle
response, there was pee just about everywhere, with appropriate vocal
accompaniment. Wish there was a video of such a scene. Or maybe, like
Tim implies, it's just another urban legend?

Check to be sure. My male cats love it. They'll lick my hands when I've
used Ben-Gay. All squinty and runny-nosed, but they keep coming back for
more.
