Default OT. keg law in NY is screwing the wrong people.

I converted that old frig with an old welding gauge and a bottle of
co2 and set up a beer tap system, but now it's too expensive and I
cant drink fast enough to get my deposit back. Anyway, if this affects
any of you, I made up some webpages to help contact law makers to take
another look.
Thanks,
walt

Buy a keg, pump from rented key when it arrives.
Return rented keg.

Why do you think I left NY, and now I find that Florida is run by NY
lawyers.

Looks like a stupid law, all right. In the event that you don't succeed
in getting it overturned, you could buy a few Cornelius kegs from Brewer's
Discount, http://www.rcbequip.com/, transfer your beer into them, then
return the commercial keg. Homebrewers use these all the time. They should
work fine with your existing regulator and CO2 bottle but you may need
some fittings to attach to the Corny keg (they have those, too... they're
cheap). You can fit several Corny kegs into a refrigerator, too, so you
could potentially have several beers on tap.

Heck, you might even want to investigate doing some homebrewing yourself.
It's easy and fun. rec.crafts.brewing is the place for more info. That'd
probably also be a good place to recruit people to oppose the law.

(no connection with Brewer's Discount, other than as a satsified customer)

Just remember, when you return the empty keg the day after you picked it up
be sure to tell the guy at the counter that it was tricky, but you managed
to find a bunch of highschool students to help you get rid of that keg so
fast. If you had more time you might have been able to handle it yourself,
but thank goodness for all those helpful highschoolers...

If enough people were to do this I bet the silly factor would become obvious
real quick. Nah, they would just ban highschool. Would save all that money
in education...

If you buy an IDENTICAL keg, just switch kegs and keep the rental one
for next time. You could even save a trip by 'drinking' the whole keg
in the parking lot.

We have a lot of experience with this type situation down here in the
Bible Belt in counties where liqour laws are controlled by the Baptist
ministers and the bootleggers. Sounds like a great opportunity for a
"State Line Keg Store". :-)

To add a bit of metalworking, I too have been pondering buying a
corney... because I'd rather not be bottling, the corney is cheap
enough, a 5lb bottle will last a LONG time, the bottle and regulator are
a bit pricy for what I have to spend, I DO have a couple large paintball
tanks though. Has anyone made an adapter(out of metal of course!),
that adapts a paintball tank to the regulator? I have made an adapter
that fits the paintball tank, what is the thread of a regular bottle and
regulator?

Walt,
Tell your NY Senator & Assembly person (PC) that you will now buy your keg
in NJ, CT or PA. While you are there, you will also purchase food, clothing
and anything else you can put off until it's keg time.

It's called a CGA-320 fitting.

http://www.concoa.com/frames/technic...onn/cga320.htm

Actually, the fittings for most paintball tanks are exactly the same as a
standard CO2 regulator, except that the paintball tank has a pin valve
(like a propane tank for a hand torch) and a standard regulator doesn't
have the pin necessary to depress the valve.

There's an item called a "Lapco dual adapter" that will work for
connecting the two. It also has an extra 1/8" NPT port on the side that
needs to be plugged. Usually places that sell the adapter also sell
the plugs.

Personally, I'd be wary about making one of these myself at my novice
skill level. CO2 tanks can produce 700-1000 psi depending on
temperature... more than enough to ruin your day if the fitting lets
loose. I just bought a ready-made.

The paintball tanks are great for portable use, although getting them
refilled is far more expensive than refilling a 20 lb tank. I bit the
bullet and leased a 20 lb. tank from the local welding supply. You can
get a device that lets you refill the paintball tank from the big tank,
but I don't have one of those yet (this requires either getting a large
tank with a dip tube or inverting the tank; you need to get liquid CO2
flowing, not gas).

Metalworking content:

I did recently buy an extra lid from one of my Corny kegs. I'm planning to
drill it and tap it for a 1" hose barb fitting for a blowoff and
ferment directly in the Corny. All-stainless brewing.. yeah!

That's a real useful site! Unfortunately, it just doesn't seem to work
very well for me. I tried it with IE and 2 versions of Netscape. Anyone
else have this problem?

Specifically, if I click on their "Reference" link it takes me to:

http://www.concoa.com/index.php?page...ef&id=11&ref=0

which doesn't have the CGA stuff. If I manually edit the above to be:

http://www.concoa.com/index.php?page...ef&id=11&ref=1

then it takes me to a nice page called "CGA Selector" with links.
However, when I click on any of those links, they don't work. But if I
cut/paste YOUR link, substituting the CGA number I want, it works.

Does it behave like this for everyone?

An update:
I received one email from assemblyman Dave Townsend that read:
"There is a possibility that there will be an amendment to extend the
one-month limit introduced during next year's legislative session."
At least it's a response, kudos to Mr. Townsend for stepping to the plate,
but I sent dozens of emails to these officials and only received one
response.
Please visit the website again, I added a copy and paste letter people can
send along with more email addresses.
Let's get this thing fixed in NY. If you don't live in NY, you could be
next!
Thanks for everyones responses.
