The biggest TROLL here is the nym shifting cow, aka 50 other names. He
is a liar, a phony and a real turd.

Says he filters out political names, threads, kill filed Derby and me
and lied about it. Even imitated me recently.

The guy is queer, lets Amish boys drive his tractor and has carnal
knowledge of his farm animals.

I wonder why #12 got left off of that list.

12 187

He ranks higher than 4 of those listed and posts some of the most
ridiculous and stupid stuff a.h.r has ever seen. If he is not responding
in a ridiculous manner, he's starting his own threads with stupid jokes
and way OT stuff.

I think the list was rigged.

Believe it or not, I actually like peace and quiet. I can read or surf The Web in complete silence without a radio blasting music in the background. I do often have a talk radio station streaming on my computer but not loud. I can actually hear my battery operated analog wall clock ticking from across the room. Most guys my age need hearing aids. ヽ(ヅ)ノ

Brings back memories of staying at my grandparent's house 65 years ago.
To mr, it is a comforting sound. Our family room clock ticks and chimes
on the hour too. I wind it every Sunday for 35 years that we've had it. .

I had dinner over a friend's house a few weeks ago, I stopped counting their clocks and
clock related decorations when I reached 30 in just the 3 first floor rooms.. There was over
a dozen "clocks" in the dining room alone.

Wall clocks, table clocks, pictures with clocks in them. Some worked, some didn't.
Many ticked, many chimed.

Wall clocks, table clocks, pictures with clocks in them. Some worked, some
didn't. Many ticked, many chimed.

I recently learned that in a room of grandfather clocks, they will (mostly)
all eventually synchronize. Can you guess why?

Vibrations from each pendulum can influence the swings of the others.

That assumes that all clocks are attached to a medium that can transmit the
vibrations. It might take a very, very long time in a room with concrete
walls. ;-)

I'd guess they have to be in physical contact, or at least on the same wall. Then the vibration will pass between them, and they'll swing in time, like carrier bags annoyingly swing in time with your running. I'm surprised it's enough effect though, given the mass of a wall is far greater than a pendulum. Maybe it only works with big clocks and a long time period.

The 'timekeeper' gets tired of them not being synchronized and adjusts
them.

Ah, you're no fun. (-: But that is the current thinking about why they
tend to synch up.

Cool! I guess this is similar to all the generators on the national grid staying in phase. Although they're connected more strongly.

What you will notice in the shorter video is that once the support piece is
placed back on the solid surface, the devices begin to loose sync. That could
easily be attributed to slight differences in the speed setting, inaccuracies
of the movement, friction, etc.

However, one might assume - based on the theory of transmitted vibrations -
that they would all eventually sync up again, although it might take a very
long time. That said, there might also be a point where the "loose" set up
is able to synchronize the devices even with major differences in the factors
mentioned above while the "solid" set up might *never* be able overcome those
differences.

It's one of those things that would be really hard to prove since you would
have to leave the devices running for all of eternity before you could firmly
say that it will never happen. In theory, you might be able to track minute
changes and then calculate how long it *should* take for them all to sync up,
but you might never be able to physically prove it.

This doesn't happen naturally as far as I know. I had to use a
synchroscope to nearly match to the grid phase before attaching to the
grid.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchr...nating_current)

Also, the behavior seen with the pendulum metrognomes would only work
with them aligned a certain way (with a feedback mechanism) and all
having the same period or simple ratios of periods.

I doubt that a room full of 'different' grandfather clocks with
different pendulum alignments and periods would exhibit this behavior.

I meant STAYING in phase. You do need to get them pretty close to begin with, or huge currents would flow when you connect.
