SNIP Cross-Post That must be a large blower (big furnace?). Approx 10 Amps (@ 120V). Believeable though. The thermostat may have a FAN switch which is set to "ON", rather than AUTO. OR...the FAN/LIMIT switch inside the furnace is stuck On. If electrical troubleshooting isn't your field, get a service type in. Jim |

Is your fan set to On not Auto on the thermostat, 1000 kwh is a bit
high for a fan. what makes you think it is using 1000kwh |

The fan relay switch contacts may be stuck closed --or on. First, disconnect the power. You could tap it lightly with the insulated head of a screw driver. Connect power, still run? Don't blame me if you brake it! Welded switch contact points won't release with tapping. Also, tap the furnace near the fan/limit switch. If either stops the blower, --set the fan switch to a higher shut-off temperature. If a defective switch, disconnect the power source, and replace the defective component. Don't electrocute yourself! If you don't know where those switches are, call a tech. -Darrell -- Air Conditioning System Sizing for Optimal Efficiency - http://www.udarrell.com/airconditioning-sizing.html |

You have a furnace to keep warm and an AC to keep cool. There is a cost
associated with that. Part of the cost, in a forced air system, is the fan. Professional HVAC engineers whose specialty was commercial units for office buildings and manufacturing plants, convinced me years ago that running the fan continuously, and letting the heat or AC cycle on and off as required, was the best way to operate a commercial or home system. They all ran their home fans full time. So did their servicemen. (In those days they were all servicemen, today they are probably service persons.) We have not turned ours off except for maintenance since. This results in more uniform temperatures throughout your house, plus your air is continuously circulating and filtering. You get used to the sound of the fan, and it is not objectionable. You are not aware when the heat or AC kicks in. There are no dramatic swings in the temp. And because your motor is not starting and stopping, it probably lasts longer. Since yours has been running constantly for whatever reason, you already have these advantages. Many people choose to have the furnace fan running constantly to circulate air in the house. There is sometimes a switch on the furnace housing that has three positions - AUTO, OFF & ON. If you see such a rocker switch, and it is in the ON position, switch it to the AUTO position so that the fan only runs when the furnace is operating. Failing this, it could be a faulty furnace thermostat - not the house thermostat - that is staying closed even when the furnace temperature has cooled off after running. If so, call a furnace maintenance man to reset it or change it. If you know what you are doing you can adjust it yourself, but why risk making it worse. Oh goody. ... My thought too. Or maybe something in the auto circuit went south. But the fan isn't large, it would have to be huge. 10 A is probably the circuit maximum for the furnace. Most likely the blower is 1/2 hp (350 watts) or less and his 1000 kwh per month comes out to nearly 1400 watts. So, no way is that just the fan Well for info he ge 1/4 hp = 4.2a ge 1/3 hp = 6.2a ge 1/2 hp = 7.3a ge 3/4 hp = 10.3a So, this blows your theory of a blower motor not pulling 10A. -- kjpro _-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-__-~-_ ( kjpro @ starband . net ) remove spaces to e-mail Want it done yesterday? There is nothing, nothing at all that makes the person that made the comment a bigot. DAMN...we ALL..well..those of us in the trade, know that most every mobile home has a fan switch like the one that the clueless one was commenting about, and why its there, and who you can thank for it....and that they are not found on a stick built home unit 99.9% of the time, and why you wont find one there. |
