You tried to help some one with sensate information, and you get a
series of messages from people that only deserve the "Del" key.

should it be using this much electricity?

Many people choose to have the furnace fan running constantly to
circulate air in the house. There is sometimes a switch on the
furnace housing that has three positions - AUTO, OFF & ON. If you
see such a rocker switch, and it is in the ON position, switch it to
the AUTO position so that the fan only runs when the furnace is
operating.

Failing this, it could be a faulty furnace thermostat - not the
house thermostat - that is staying closed even when the furnace
temperature has cooled off after running. If so, call a furnace
maintenance man to reset it or change it. If you know what you are
doing you can adjust it yourself, but why risk making it worse.
