Is there a chemical antidote to bleach that will inactivate it instantly?

Do not mix bleach and ammonia unless you want to die. Seriously. When I was about 13 I did something foul in the toilet (I think it was after my first introduction to a HOT Madras !). My mum smelt it, inspected the toilet & shrieked at me to clean it. After about an hour (I was 13) I thought I'd better Obey. I squirted Domestos in the toilet bowl - then RAN. I only got a slight whiff of the fumes but that had my chest burning & me coughing a fit ! Turns out my mum had put Harpic powder in the bowl already. We had to leave the house for a while. I was told later at school that I'd inadvertently made a gas that used to be used in warfare ! BE CAREFUL, some household chemicals really don't like each other - or YOU ! |

We used to call it into the Hypo Which immediately stopped the developing process and "fixed" the image. Perhaps Sodium hyposulphide? -- for full context, visit https://www.homeownershub.com/mainte...te-743921-.htm |

Don't do this! Mixing bleach & ammonia creates chloroform!

Chloramines are toxic. They are what the water company puts in your drinking water to kill bacteria. It is less toxic than chlorine, which the water company used to put in your drinking water. Chlorine is much better at killing bacteria but we use the weaker chloramine instead. The reason is that if there is enough organic material in the drinking water, chlorine reacts to form trihalomethane compounds, which are believed to be cancer causing. Did you notice we drink both of them? but only in drinking water. Please don't drink ammonia OR bleach, straight up or mixed. |

I spilled a few drops of bleach on the rug, and immediately flushed it with water, but the thought came to me that there might be an instant chemical "antidote" to bleach (like there is with an acid:base). http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/...g/12653214.jpg Is there something (other than water dilution) that counteracts bleach? Charcoal is a traditional chemical antidote. Skin surface bleach burns can be relieved by potato peelings. Tobias. |

There is a chemical used in hot tubs to reduce chlorine levels. Sodium Thiosulfate. I have no idea what the resulting chemicals might be, but it is sold at the pool stores. |
