I've not had good results with the scratch scuff polish.
But, I've gotten some very nice eye glasses from Zenni
Optical. Online, out of Hong Kong, Might be less expensive
than those locally made eye glasses.

BAD idea, if you ever drive into a setting sun- you won't be able to see
anything. If it is just one major scratch, I'd learn to live with it-
you will learn to tune it out by turning your head slightly. You won't
even notice you are doing it. I have a pair of glasses like that now.

And like the others said, if you have a current scrip, shop around for
some cheap replacements. But be aware- the coating quality on cheap
glasses is often abysmal, and the center-to-center pupil distance is
critical. And if your scrip is strong, forget about thin lenses- you'll
see rainbows around everything except at the exact center. Tried those
once, took them back in 3 days.

When I was much younger and poorer I used Turtle Wax, the automotive stuff,
to improve but not repair plastic lenses.

Once you clean them with Windex you will need to apply it again.

Hey for a few bucks, try it. It worked for me.

Do let me know your results.

If your lenses are the only problem, you should be able to replace
them fairly cheaply, as the real $$$ is in the frames. If your
optomitrists neglected to point out this fact, you need to find
another one. If you have plastic lenses, it's your only option, as
they cannot be repaired. I've always opted for tempered safety glass
lenses, which will take years of surface abuse with little effect.
I've only had one pair of plastic lenses. Never again.

You won't ever catch me in glass lenses. Your statement may be correct for
you, but for many of us, plastic is quite a big step forward for comfort. I
wear a high index as they are even lighter in my prescription. If they were
glass, I'd need a chin prop to hold my head up with the extra weight.

Don't forget that broken glass in the eye isn't fun.

High index (of refraction) lenses are obviously lighter than the alternatives
but they also have nasty chromatic aberration. I assume you're very
near-sighted.

As for price, some are cheap, but if you have or need some of the options,
lenses get very expensive. Frames though, are very overpriced. Sometimes
you get lucky and my last frame was $15.

It's more where you buy them than what you buy. My OD charges $75 for
anti-glare coatings, where some charge $10 for exactly the same thing.

Once in my life did I put a serious scratch in a lens. I was 10 years old
and was home from getting my new glasses for about an hour. Someone tossed
something at me and it hit the lens and put a scratch right down the center.

I put a pretty good ding in my other pair, when I was putting up the Christmas
lights this year. A 15' fall into the rocks below did a real number on them.
Oh, well. I'm due for new lenses in a month or two.

I've bought glasses from Zenni. My single focuss glasses are
wonderful. The bifocals, the reading part doesn't work. I
may very well have messed up the prescription when I put it
in.

Uhmmm.... not getting something in your eye, including the
glasses
you're wearing, is pretty much the whole point of "safety"
glasses.
Hence, the name. Duh.

We weren't talking about "safety" glasses. Duh, yourself.

Thanks for all the tips but they aren't that bad so I guess I'll live with
it for now..The glasses are about 5 years old and I don't have the script as
they were made right at the eye doctors..They are invisaline bifocals..I got
them right after I had cataract surjury on my right eye...The left one needs
it now so I need to go back anyway...Probably do it in the spring...Again

I suppose you could stop scratching them, and start cleaning them correctly.
I'll never understand why people will usually take good care of camera
lenses, but they'll abuse their eyeglasses, which often cost more than a
camera.

Right way to clean eyeglasses: Plenty of warm water, and a cotton ball with
a drop or two of dishwashing liquid or plain liquid hand soap (not one which
contains skin conditioner). Dry with a wipe made for camera lenses.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...o_Wipes.h tml

If you keep these wipes clean and uncontaminated by debris, they're reusable
for eyeglasses.

I wasn't able to find the design I like, in my pupil
distance, temples, etc. I guess if you like it their way,
you get a good price. If you like to "have it your way" then
Burger King is a better choice. My Zennis have served me
well, in several situations. I use them for reading
scripture. And they were handy to have when my "daily
driver" eye glasses were lost during the recent truck wreck.
I did find them again in the back seat, oddly enough. Days
later, when I was cleaning out the wrecked truck.

Watch the commercials for that stuff closely.

After they swab the stuff on the glasses, you can CLEARLY see that
they are STILL SCRATCHED.

All the stuff does is wet the surface of the lens down so that it's
not obvious that they're scratched to the camera, but when the light
hits them just right, you can see they're just as bad as ever.

You have some cheap-assed camera!

People don't take the same care of them because they're used more often and
get forgotten.

It's not the cleaning that scratches mine. It's that 15' fall to the rocks
below that does it every time. Of course the trip through the laundry didn't
help the other pair.

Overkill. All you need is a soft cloth. I generally use micro-fiber cloths
from the dollar store.

Why do you say that? 20/400 vision, wacko astigmatism. Only one place in
Rochester NY has ever been able to make lenses which don't make the world
look like a funhouse mirror. They're expensive. I take really good care of
them.

So, about that bridge....

What would you do if you worked your way up the price scale with various

I suppose you could stop scratching them, and start cleaning them
correctly.
I'll never understand why people will usually take good care of camera
lenses, but they'll abuse their eyeglasses, which often cost more than
a
camera.

You have some cheap-assed camera!

My glasses cost $500.

1) My camera (not a particularly good one) was closer to $900.
2) You're a fool.

So, I'm a fool for suggesting that people should take care of expensive
eyeglasses.

Yes, only a damned *FOOL* would spend $500 for glasses.

Got it.

Glad I could help.

What would you do if you worked your way up the price scale with various
dealers, and absolutely NOBODY could produce the prescription correctly
until you hit a certain price point? Not wear glasses?

I don't believe you had to spend $500, no. Vanity will do amazing things,
though.

Avoiding distorted vision is vanity? Please explain.

By "distorted vision", think "almost like a fisheye lens".

I am very nearsighted and good multi-focal eyeglasses for me cost a lot
of money. It wouldn't surprise me if my new eyeglasses cost $500 or more.

Sorry, I gotta agree with him. Short of trial-and-error with every
eyeglass merchant/eyedoctor within tolerable driving range, price is a
decent predictor of quality. My scrip isn't even that weird, but it is
strong, and I have been very disappointed in the quality of the lens
grinding and/or coating from the discount places. We won't even go into
how crappy the far-east import frames are.

I'm nearsighted too, 20/400. My present pair was $400. Hi index,
Transitions, vari-focal, anti-glare coating. I'd like to save a buck, but
I'm not willing to compromise quality as a I look through them 16 to 18
hours a day.

I bought a bottle of some liquid stuff that you painted on. It sort
of worked but it dried too fast to fully self level.

I have prescription bifocal sunglasses which I wear every day for
driving. Over the past four years the surfaces have become quite
scratched to the point of creating "clouds" in front of my eye.

Faced with the same situation as you, I purchased a bottle of
Meguire's plastic scratch repairing liquid ($5 at WalMart) and with a
little elbow grease and some time I did two applications and they are
now a LOT better. Not perfect mind you, but a heck of a lot better.
When I have time I will apply several more applications to get them
even better.

I've also read that the headlight lens restorer kit works well too.

Good luck.
