I inherited a Homelite weedeater. What is the correct oil/gas mix for it?
It is 200 miles away right now, so I don't know the model number. Did they
have different mixes for them, or all the same? It didn't come with a
manual. Went to Home Depot, and snooped, but it wasn't on the outside of
the box.

This works out ot 50:1. This may be a synthetic oil and, if so, regular oil
would be a diferent ratio.

What is the appropriate fuel-mix for my unit?
Answer: Mix Homelite Premium Exact Mix oil with unleaded gasoline. When
using the 2.6-ounce Exact Mix oil, thoroughly mix the entire contents with 1
gallon (4 liters) of fresh, unleaded gasoline. When using the 16-ounce Exact
Mix oil, squeeze the oil to the 2.6-ounce fill line in the reservoir. Mix
this with 1 gallon (4 liters) of fresh, unleaded gasoline. Exact-Mix engine
oil, when mixed with gasoline according to the instructions on the oil
package, will provide complete lubrication protection for the engine.
Additionally, Exact Mix oil contains an antioxidant fuel stabilizer. Under
average conditions, fuel mixed with Exact-Mix oil will stay fresh up to 30
days.

2 ounces 2 cycle engine oil to one gallon regular gasoline.

Most small engines like chainsaws run well on 32:1, which means 32 ounces of
gasoline per one ounce of two stroke oil.

This means four (4) ounces of oil per galon of gasoline. Be sure to buy "two
cycle" oil, not ordinary motor oil. Many two cycle oils have picture of
chainsaw on the front of the bottle. Two cycle and two stroke are different
names, same thing.

If you use too much oil, the motor will smoke, and foul plugs early. If you
use no oil, or too little, you risk the piston rod siezing to the
crankshaft. Which makes for a "throw it out and buy another one" moment.

I've seen. Except for some new synthetic oils which run 100:1.

Edwin has the right answer again. He quoted Homelite and posted from
experience. I mix for my Homelite weed whacker at 50:1 as well. Its the
same mix I use in my Husqvarna chain saw. I buy either those little
2.6oz bottles and mix them with 1 gallon of gas or use one of those
bottles with the measuring dohickey thing. I only mix up 1 gallon at a
time. I do not know about synthetic oils and such. Regualr old 2 cyl
oil in fresh gas is all that required. My homelite is about 10 years
old and wont quit. (I really want an Echo, RedMax, Stihl or Husqvarna
trimmer but that will have to wait till my homelite dies)

That is good. My new Husky saw came with those bottles, and will use the
same mix. I wanted to be sure. Having two different mixes around has
disaster written all over it.

Well, I am looking at my bottle of Husky oil, and my owner's manual.

In the manual, it says to use 2.5 ounces per gallon for a 50:1 mix. The
bottles are 2.6 oz, so I guess 2.6 is just a safety factor. It says to
never use outboard two cycle oil. It does say to use higher than 87 octane.

Anyone have a Homelite manual that gives the mix?

I have a LawnBoy lawnmower and I take 2 cans of lawnboy oil and mix it in my
5 gallon gas can. I not only use this gas for my lawnmower, but snowblower,
chainsaw, weedwacker, hedge trimmer, and lawnblower. I've been doing this
for many years and have never had any problems with any of the engines. My
advice is get a can and mix the oil in it and use. one can of oil to a 2
1/2 gal can. In other words my comment is "one size fits all".

Even at 2.6 ounces, sounds a bit lean to me. I know the technology is
improving, but I'd be tempted to run a bit richer than that. Use the 2.6
ounce, and only pump 0.8 galons, that kind of thing. I'd risk a fouled plug
before risking a siezed piston.

When I took my small engine repair course, we were told that outboards are
water cooled. They run a lot cooler, and the outboard oil won't handle ethe
heat of air cooled engines.

HOw many oz in your Lawnboy can? I think 32:1 will run in just about
anything. Lawnboy oil is supposed to be really good product, and I'd believe
it would run in anthing two stroke.

Lost the manual a long time ago - Interestingly I still do have my
husqvarna manual. The dealer (A chainsaw only shop) not only told me to
use high octane but told be if at all impossible to only use Mobil! Go
figure. Doing hurricane cleanup with my husky after katrina I couldn't
be picky about the gas, brand or octane and yet never had a problem.

There is no need for a homelite manual for confirming fuel. Its 50:1,
same as your chainsaw.

Your Husqvarna 2.6oz bottles will be perfect. Don't get sucked into
brands and think you must use homelite oil in a homelite, etc.
