I am close to closing my door to this group. Why? It seems that in the
last several months it has been infested with garbage (big tits, nike
shoes, etc.). Looking at things now, I have to assume there is no hope
in recovery, or something would have been done by now. Maybe nothing
can be done. Can't a filter be applied to anyone wanting to post
something here? A filter that looks for key words in the subject or
message that can reject non electronic repair stuff? This can't be
difficult or impossible. Maybe make it more difficult to subscribe -
24 hour waiting period to confirm user (email address and phone number
- yes be contacted). I wouldn't mind this if my motive was for the
right reason. Relpies welcome.

I dont see that much spam here . There are other reasons you want to
leave .

If it bothers you then why not subscribe to a techs only forum or listserve.
There are many that are not plagued by the spam, though they are often
plagued by chatty techs who can't keep focused on fixing things.

Legitimate requests for help are still being answered, as they always have
been, or are you somehow missing that ? This is not a moderated internet
forum. It is a Usenet newsgroup. No one has to 'subscribe' to it in that
way. This is just a word that your newsgroup reader client uses to indicate
that it is on your 'favorites' list of groups, with a direct shortcut. The
spam is produced by bots, not people, and there's not a lot that can be done
to circumvent it really.

This is the usenet, you have to do the filtering on your end. I agree the
spam is irritating, but it's pretty easy to identify it at a glance and
ignore it, or set up a filter in your newsreader. I normally sort by name
and read the posts by people I recognize first, then scroll through the
other posts to see if anything catches my eye that I happen to be
knowledgeable about, the junk just gets ignored.

_NOT_ GOOGLE! Google has _NOTHING_ to do with usenet other than to provide

Get a real news server that filters out most of the crap. Google
groups is crap. What do you expect from a 'free' service'?

I am still getting the electronic related stuff, but only having been
visiting this site for a year or two, I have never seen this much
"spam". It's like a flood gate that started leaking and busted wide
