Offset saw - where to buy?
Hi everyone,
Any ideas where I can buy an offset saw for trimming the bottom of door frames prior to laying a laminate floor? B&Q and Homebase don't stock them and they're supposed to be ideal for the job - suggestions gratefully received! Thanks John |

oups.com... Hi everyone, Any ideas where I can buy an offset saw for trimming the bottom of door frames prior to laying a laminate floor? If the latter, then hire one. Axminster sell them (www.axminster.co.uk) - order no's 1811240 & 317588 BUT... they're specialist kit - be prepared for a bit of a shock on the price (to put it mildly).... AFAIK there isn't a budget range equivalent, which is a pity 'cos they're useful things for occasional use. -- Richard Sampson mail me at richard at olifant d-ot co do-t uk |

Sorry 'bout that. IME any flexible saw will do it - I used a standard wickes hardpoint. Use a bit of laminate offcut, or a laminate board upside down as a guide for the saw height. Works a treat. -- Richard Sampson mail me at richard at olifant d-ot co do-t uk |

Easier to take the door off and trim with a circular saw against a batten. Or fit rising butt hinges. |

Axminster do some sort of angle grinder type adaptation but I think that may only be for trimming doors. The Fein will trim anything anywhere. -- SJW Please reply to group or use 'usenet' in email subject |

He's talking about cutting a slot in the bottom of the door frame and architrave so the laminate flooring will slide under it, avoiding fiddly trimming. You're talking about increasing the gap under a door. Yeah, sorry about that. Must try reading the question beore answering. |

I reread the OP's post before my second response, though, and it looked like he was just looking for an offset handsaw for trimming the bottom of the frames, not trimming the door down. For trimming bottom of frames I'd not want to use anything but a cheap saw - have come across nails frequently when trimming these. -- Richard Sampson mail me at richard at olifant d-ot co do-t uk |
