I'm trying to tidy up plumbing with solvent pipes,
yesterday disconnected cistern went to town, bought 40mm pipe, it didnt fit, went back, bought 32mm pipe, that didnt fit... what is the name and size of the pipe from cistern to pan? what am i doing wrong? If I use smaller 32mm somehow should I raise the cistern to get more flow? George |

I recently fitted a new high level cistern to replace the tatty fairly modern one with a Victorian reproduction - and very pleased with the results. The new flush pipes were 35mm outside diameter. -- *I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury. Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Yup, by design, so you don't try a solvent weld pushfit pipe (wrong type of plastic) aaaarrrggghhhh Indeed... I keep a stock of both, and a few "universal" compression fittings so you can transition from one to the other. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |

It's resistant to UV (push-fit is PP and isn't resistant) and the solvent-weld pipe, being the bigger OD, is a tighter fit in compression fittings. The comp. system on the washing machine has gone a bit slack - still OK but won't tighten any more. -- Peter. The gods will stay away whilst religions hold sway |

Buggeration, Does this mean the 40mm pushfit I have sticking out of the wall from a sink at work is no good for the boss i've bought for the soil stack?! Well it's too late now because the new floor isn't coming up! I sense a bodge coming on. I see you are supposed to use solvent weld outside, still learning..... |

You can use a compression coupler/elbow if there's room. If it is visible and outside it is at least easily replaceable if it leaks. -- Roger Hayter |

Buggeration, Does this mean the 40mm pushfit I have sticking out of the wall from a sink at work is no good for the boss i've bought for the soil stack?! You can get rubber bosses that go on the end of pushfit, and allow it to plug into a socket on a soil stack connector. Alternatively you can use a "universal" (i.e. compression) elbow and convert to solvent weld at that point, then use the plastic weldable bosses designed for that. Well it's too late now because the new floor isn't coming up! I sense a bodge coming on. I see you are supposed to use solvent weld outside, still learning..... I have used solvent weld outside and its ok. Just make sure you have adequate pipe clips in place so that it can't thermal cycle and pull apart. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |
