Nice and sunny with blue sky here in Essex!

If Jim doesn't like rain this might help:

too complicated

"Glasgow often comes at the top of Scotland's "most rainy" lists, but
the smaller town of Greenock nearby slightly trumps it with an average
of 174.6 days of rain per year"

"It is warmed by the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic, and given its
northerly latitude it is much warmer than areas on similar latitudes,
for example Kamchatka in Russia or Labrador in Canada - where the sea
freezes over in winter or Fort McMurray, Canada-where -35 °C (-31 °F)
is not uncommon during winter. Scots sometimes describe weather which
is grey and gloomy using the Scots language word dreich"

"Scotland is one of the wettest places in Europe"

"Due to the mountainous topography of the western Highlands, this type
of precipitation is orographic in nature, with the warm, wet air forced
to rise on contact with the mountainous coast, where it consequently
cools and condenses, forming clouds. In comparison, much of eastern
Scotland receives less than 870 mm (34.3 in) annually; lying in the
rain shadow of the western uplands."

This all seems pretty normal.

I presume you have good boots ? I have an
excellent pair now, having for years used
inferior footwear and plastic bags for dryness.
Finally, I have one pair of footwear that doesn't leak.

Good boots will put a smile on your face.

I can recommend Sealskinz socks:

https://www.sealskinz.com/collections/socks

Your feet stay perfectly dry no matter what shoes/boots you wear. And I
do a LOT of walking.

I've heard the name and knew what they were but not actually looked at
any product info (so thanks).

I wonder if they do any socks that don't use wool as I might go for
some (can't find 'waterproof' boots / shoes in my size).

Cheers, T i m

Even if you suffer from sweaty feet ?. The moisture has to go
somewhere. 'Goretex' shoes/boots are best IMHO.

I suspect Cumbria might be just as wet, or even wetter.

And spare a thought for the folks of South West Ireland.
