Lot easier to clean than the alternatives except stainless
steel which obviously costs a hell of a lot more. Glass is even
more expensive and wouldn't work for my pantry shelves that
need to be able to take 2 years of marmalade in 600ml jars.

Nothing like old enough for me to need to be over 100
years old to have learned to saw before you were even born.

You'd need to be over 95 for that and you certainly aren't that
given what you have said about what stuff you were involved
with personally at the BBC just after starting there.

Only really stainless steel and glass. Stainless would be fine strength
wise but glass wouldn’t work in my pantry because I need shelves that
will take 2 years supply of marmalade in 600ml jars and a couple of
years of the cans of beer concentrate which are even heavier again.

And both are much more expensive than melamine clad mdf anyway.

And you don’t see much of the shelves anyway, just the front edge
anyway and give that it’s the pantry which isnt something that matters
much appearance wise, imo it’s the only sensible way to do those shelves.

I do have proper timber shelves for the books, because they are much
more rigid than mdf and so you need less verticals with stuff as heavy
as books. I use slotted 25mm black dexion floor to ceiling rectangular
frames which are dynabolted to the block walls and concrete slab floor
for all my shelving. With lengths of 12mm aluminium flat that go in
the slots in the dexion, vertically, which hold up the shelves and which
allows the shelves to be located at any 25mm spacing vertically.

The shelving in the workshop is mostly white painted mdf.

None of that needs any hand sawing to look perfect.

Hmm, true - food cupboards will be in kitchen units, which are that.
With the doors shut to hide it.

But plain or painted wood both work fine IME for shelving outside
cupboards, even in a kitchen. And are easier to clean than a bit of
aging melamine cladding which is starting to come away.

Even sillier and more pig ignorant than you usually manage
with all of cutting the rafters for the entire roof, and for
doing a
timber fence, and for cutting sheets of particle board etc etc etc.

Thanks for confirming for a third time you don't have handsaw
skills.

Or any other skills,

Default Lidl Drill on Thursday - Any good?

The setting it's on is the chisel 'hammer' symbol. The other two are
drill and hammer drill. The 4th setting lets you turn the chisel.

I am in the market for an SDS+ drill to replace my Makita that has
just died after 3 years. On inspection I found that the pin driving
the impact mechanism was blue from heat and the motor pinion teeth
were mostly missing! I was dismayed to find that there was no apparent
lubrication in the drive and gear mechanism.

Disappointing for Makita. Mine does get warm, and there's some grease
supplied, which I suppose helps.

I have compared the theoretical spec for the Lidl one and it appears
(on paper!) to be up there with more expensive budget machines from
Toolstation:

Lidl Impact force 3J, Input Power 1050W £40
Draper 20503 2.5J, 750W, £80
Both 0-5,300ipm
Sparky BPR261E 3.1J, 820W, 0-5450ipm £100

FWIW, mine is:

Impact energy: 3 joules max, 1050W
Drilling capacity: 13 mm in steel max. 32 mm in wood max. 26 mm in concrete

The one on sale now does look a little different - the drill casing is
fancier. And it's clean ;-)

Many thanks for the info Rob.

I was first in the queue at my Lidl branch this morning (in fact I was
a queue of one!) and had eight to choose from.

It certainly looks and feels the business so looking forward to
putting it to work.

I found it rather peculiar that SDS-Plus is only mentioned in one
place in the small print on the outer packaging and only once in the
list of contents in the booklet. So buyer beware; this is not a
standard hammer drill that one might think from the literature.

Mike

Looked at other photos.

Bloody hell that is bad rising damp at that Gallery in Sheffield!

Impressive indeed. Probably spent more time looking at that than the
paintings :-)

In the earlier days stuff tended to sell out quite quickly. Now less so
- whether it's stock or demand, don't know.

The more depressing thing is if it's on sale a few weeks later for 10
quid less - life goes on, pay what you think it's worth :-)

It certainly looks and feels the business so looking forward to
putting it to work.

Yep, very pleased with mine. Keep the receipt - 3 year guarantee.

I think that might have caught a few people out.

Pics and description mentions a chisel. Which means SDS - not hammer.

Nope, statement of fact.
