Joints for heavy hardwood dg sash windows
I'm planning to make replacement vertical sliding sashes for my
old windows. They will be double glazed, and made of some hardwood I have knocking around - not 100% sure what it is, possibly a mahogany or something very similarly dense and brown. Most of the detail I've thought through but would appreciate any constructive thoughts and in particular some advice on what sort of joints to go for at the sash corners. Each will be around 3 ft x 3ft with (so far) no structural astragal centre bar (though I plan a "plant on" one to keep the look & feel of the originals). Clearly with a 2'9" square dg unit in they are going to weigh a fair bit so joints must be strong and/or cleverly arranged, and I want to take care to give them every chance against weather getting into the joints and promoting decay. What would you do and why please? TIA -- Jim K ----Android NewsGroup Reader---- http://usenet.sinaapp.com/ |
