The latest cat I got a fortnight ago is losing a lot of hair.
Apparently this is from excessive grooming that they do when they
have fleas. I'll spray him.

That doesn;t really help much the spray is for the carpets where
the eggs hatch into laevy which is what the spray kills rather than
the fleas.
fleas are killed by the stuff yuo get to put on the back of the
neck.
It gets into the blood stream and that's what kills the fleas.

I have Johnsons spray for mites on birds. It appears to kill the
fleas too.

Differnt animals have difernt fleas there use dto be a human flea but
they have pretty much died out due to modern hygene. The normal cat
flea spray you buy
well the one I get from the VETs says not to be sprayed directly on
your cat.

This said you could spray it directly onto birds, so I guess cats and
myself are ok with it.

I wouldn't "guess" at things like that with a pet of mine. I'd like to
know for sure.

I have. When I fed my neighbour's cats when they were away for the winter,
I had a reminder in Outlook to remind me to go and feed them at that time.
When the neighbours returned, it was obvious to them that the cats were
remembering that I fed them at that time because they lined up with
dinner bowls in paw and demanded to be fed at that time.

It is deliberate and it is only hands that it licks.

As I say, they vary. The brother/sister we got now, she laps water
from
the bowl. He'll only drink from the tap, utility room. SWMBO's cat
when
we got married (since deceased), also a boy, also loved getting in
the
bath and drinking from the tap.

Mine prefer drinking form the stagnant pond than a bowl of tapwater. I
guess it's got more flavour.

They still don't like it when it's been standing for 2 days, which
removes all chlorine, although they might remember it used to have
chlorine, although I've not seen much evidence of cats remembering
things!

I have. When I fed my neighbour's cats when they were away for the winter,
I had a reminder in Outlook to remind me to go and feed them at that time.
When the neighbours returned, it was obvious to them that the cats were
remembering that I fed them at that time because they lined up with
dinner bowls in paw and demanded to be fed at that time.

And you have too. If they didn't, you wouldn't be able to train
them to not **** and **** in the house and to not attack birds etc.
