Less potent than Amphetamines?

Yes. Methylphenidate is considered a *mild* CNS stimulant.

It's relative. And on a milligram to milligram dosage comparison,

very potent at all.

Ah, you posted links to stuff that either contradicted your

I'm not following this thread, but next time just give him

I can't quote any research to confirm this, but my personal experience
certainly goes along with it. It seems that people who allow their
children to climb the curtains tend to have children who climb the curtains.

On the other hand, taking time to teach children something interesting
(such as making curls out in the shop) can do them worlds of good.. but
it seems there's a lot of people in the world who really don't do
anything interesting- they work at a job and play with toys (boats,
bikes, snowmobiles, etc.) that they pay someone to repair.. and what
does the curious child get from that?

Some kids sell or trade their medications with one another.

I should also add that none the 6,000,000+ officially diagnosed
children on psychoactive drugs will be accepted into military
service or other sensitive job.

The AMA says the number is closer to 1.6 million total, including those
taking psychoactive medications for very short terms. Considering the mental
state required to meet the criteria, not many of those who are diagnosed by
professionals as being ADHD are likely to wind up for very long in
"sensitive jobs."

Where did you get your number, from Dr. Breggins, every lawsuit-happy
group's favorite "expert witness"? If so, you may want to see what
Quackwatch has to say about him before spreading your b.s.

Children are likely to enjoy lots of stuff, but I suspect that some
things are better for them than others. Don't get me wrong- I got little
against power-toys and video games, but I feel that a child would be
better off to learn to repair his own dirt bike and maybe learn how a
crystal radio works than to just ride the bike till it breaks (and send
it out for repair) and play Nintendo with no idea of how electronics work.

SSRIs cannot be given "for very short terms" without increasing
the potential of adverse effects as does switching between SSRIs
or abruptly stopping their use.

First off, Ritalin is not an SSRI. It's a dopamine agonist. Secondly, most
of the research on efficacy of SSRIs in children concentrates on the
short-term benefits. The SSRIs are used for short-term treatment of
early-onset depression, as well as long-term treatment of several
conditions.

What the percentage is of long-term versus short-term treatment with these
drugs in children probably isn't known. However, what I said was that the
AMA's estimate included short-term, as well as long-term usage.

Concerning the efficacy of SSRIs, it usually begins in 3 to 4 weeks. The
problem is not in terminating their use, it's in terminating their use
abruptly. As with adult usage of these drugs, field experience shows that a
careful withdrawal must be suprervised by the physician.

Which pharmaceutical company do you work for?

I notice you didn't answer the question. Is there a reason for that? Do you
not know where your information came from, perhaps? Or did you find out that
it came from quacks?

As for *your* question, I work for all of them. You may have read some of
the patient material I've written or edited. What would you like to know?
