Veteran's Day, 11-11-2012
Once again, it is time to remember our nations Veterans. To recognize those who gave their lives, as well as all who have served in times of peace and war. To the families who did without the presence of a family member, and those who lost a loved one in defense of our nations ideals. I salute my fellow Veterans today, and every day. |

Sua Sponte! Gunner, who is 59 today. -- ""The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That’s why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd. Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality. What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want. The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn’t have a clue than there were Republicans." James Carvell, DNC operative |

It saddens my heart to post the following essay today... But really, what more appropriate time? THE TWO AMERICAS: "America is now two countries, not on speaking terms. The culturally cohesive America of the 1950s that some of us remember, is no longer with us. . . "One America listens to Rush Limbaugh; the other to NPR. Each America has its favorite cable news channel... There are plenty of smart, creative and successful people in both Americas. But they don't like to mix with each other these days. "One America tends to be traditionally religious, personally charitable, appreciative of entrepreneurs and suspicious of government. "The other tends to be secular or only mildly religious, less charitable on average, skeptical of business and supportive of government as an instrument to advance liberal causes. This was an election that pitted these two cultures against one another... "Now the Two Americas disagree, sharply. Government decisions enthuse one and enrage the other. The election is over, but the Two Americas are still not on speaking terms." ~ Michael Barone, "The Almanac of American Politics." |

I echo your sentiments. -- While we have the gift of life, it seems to me that only tragedy is to allow part of us to die - whether it is our spirit, our creativity, or our glorious uniqueness. -- Gilda Radner |

: What can we do, to remember in real terms? Visit the VA and cheer them up? Or? Stormy, Find a way to give the homeless and out-of-work vets a way to earn some money and self-respect. Here in Jacksonville, FL, one disabled and PTSD'd vet and his wife built a farm just to teach other out-of-work and disabled vets to farm. They have six "partners" (not financially, but in practice) this year -- all veterans who'd tapped out their last resources for jobs or income. Each year, they plan to roll some out into the real world, and bring others in for training. This year, all seven of them will earn about $25K this year. That's not a bounty, but it's a boon -- and they have learned enough to teach others, and build their farm for more profits. That's just an example. There are all sorts of things we (current) non- combatants can do to help out. Just saying "thanks for your service" is nice, but it doesn't help for more than a moment. Give 'em a job, ask a friend to give them one, or encourage local businesses to do so. There's work to be done. The unemployment rate among "recently" (up to two years) discharged vets is over 25%. You have great wisdom. I'm so far in debt, I havn't a dime to put on such a
cause. Still, I'll keep an eye open, something will come along. Christopher A. Young Learn more about Jesus www.lds.org .. "Lloyd E. Becuase conservatives don't need publicly subsidized TV programs to remind them of the great sacrifices of our honored veterans you simple minded invertebrate. Up yours, jackass. I'm a disabled Veteran and you are an anonymous coward. |
