Default Rockwell planer, any comments on this beast 13x6

If the blades aren't sharp, you can buy a spare set at Amazon.com,
maybe $62 for Rockwell Delta, although the Freud C573 at $40 might
work ok - check the measurements. (The C573 would limit width of
cut to 12.5" instead of 13.125".) You might be able to find a local
resharpening operation with a lower cost than a new set of blades.

I did not even realize that blades were so inexpensive.

Huh? Blades (pair) for my Griz 12.5" planer are only $24.50, and it's
in like-new condition. I gave $100 for it and it came with an extra
set of blades.

The Rockwell Delta model 22-401 planer uses sets of 3 blades.
While the Freud cost per blade is a dollar or two* more than your
cost per blade, I think the Freuds are wider and thicker.

*Amazon shows Grizzly G0633 blade pairs at $22.99, Freud C573
triples at $39.50, and Titan-brand 12.5x.75x.125" triples for
Jet, Grizzly, Reliant at $33.90. The Titans are T1 tungsten
HSS, the others are HSS and might be M2, don't know.

Jim, would you have a link to the Amazon page that sells blades
compatible with this planer?

Thanks

I don't know the size of the blades in the Rockwell 22-401 -- the
manual doesn't say, just gives the 22-128 part number. Also,
several of the Amazon links don't give the exact sizes.

One likely blade set to look at is set of 3 ea 13.125 x 1 x 1/8"
HSS Planer Blades - Delta RC-33 DC-33 Rockwell, at
http://www.amazon.com/13-1-HSS-Plane...f=pd_rhf_p_t_4
If 1" is the correct height, ignore the links for narrower blades, and
vice versa. You'll need to measure to see what height and thickness
is right. I had overlooked the 1" height of this set earlier.

Another Rockwell Delta link, height and thickness not stated, is
http://www.amazon.com/Delta-22-549-R...5113251&sr=8-1
It includes a phone number, 866-876-8073, to call for more info.

The Titan-brand 12.5x 3/4 x 1/8" triples for Jet, Grizzly, Reliant link is
http://www.amazon.com/12-1-Planer-Kn...125912&sr=8-11
and the Freud C573 12.5 x 11/16 x 1/8" Planer Knives triples link is
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?ur...573+&x=17&y=19
I have a couple Freud C573 sets for my 1985-vintage 5hp Foley-
Belsaw 12.5" planer. However, it holds the blades slightly
differently than does the Rockwell 22-401, so my original
thought about the two using the same height (11/16 to 3/4")
of blades may be wrong. If you need slotted blades see
http://www.americannationalknife.com/13To17.asp
