Default Material for tooling

I'm going to build some basic clamps for our Fadal VMC and want to
know what type of steel to use. They will be cut from 1/2 or 5/8 steel
with either a LASER or waterjet, then machined on the Fadal. I'm I
want to make something like the clamps in our 1/2-13 clamping set.
