Drilling/tapping the ends of long stuff on a vmc or BP

I saw a manual mill on ebay once with a spindle mounted in the base casting. Pictures didn't reveal exactly how it was done or what drove it. But it would have been perfect for edge drilling plate or end working long parts. That sorta sounds like a Gorton. Dick Anthony Heller I guess that's why DECKELS were invented... Wish I could afford one! My machine is a small Japanese horizontal mill with box-section dovetail overarm and a really rigid vertical head. 90% of the time the vertical head is in use, but when nothing else will do the horizontal really shines, such as end drilling of long pieces:-)), slotting, etc., and use as a lathe for turning large sheaves and brake disks. Also cylinder block boring is more conveniently done on a horizontal mill, copying HBM practice. Wolfgang |
