5.1 earthquake in Kern County?
Okay, Gunner:
Did you drop a big vertical mill off a truck right about Noon - 12:18 to be precise? From the looks of the map, you were right on top of it - the seismograph says the epicenter was 10KM underground, but I know better. Come on, admit it. ;-) -- Bruce -- -- Bruce L. The heart of the Democratic Party and its activist core is made up of government unions, government dependent professions (teachers, social workers, civil servants); special interest and special benefits groups (abortion rights, is a good example) that feed off the government trough; and ethnic constituencies, African Americans being the most prominent, who are disproportionately invested in government jobs and in programs that government provides. Clute - I bet they are all geared up and ready more than most of us due to the
massive storms that come their way. When I lived on the ring of fire - west coast - I lived on one Plate, worked on another - We saved back several weeks of food for the odd this and that. Remember the '89 Earthquake - we do. Lived very close by. When the really BIG one comes, how safe will anyone be in southern CA?
With the infrastructure reduced to dust, there will be many people looking for anything and will likely be trying to take it from whoever has it. So if you live there, how do you prepare? TMT |

Just like the guys in Clute, TX. Stock up on food, water, batteries and other power sources, lanterns/oil, ammo, and weapons to defend it all. And let your neighbors know in advance that if THEY don't stock up, too, they're not welcome at your house after (if and when) it happens. There'll be too many strays (who _didn't_ stock up) to take 'em in without risking your own survival. We'd all better go stock up before King George gets his 3rd term and makes war with yet another pair of countries (or ten), eh? It would be nice if ANY of that would go beyond theory and become accurate. (I had a great time last week reading Crichton's "State of Fear" and highly recommend it.) I can understand the stocking up on supplies but I don't see that as a
cure-all. Your location would likely be damaged and is certainly subject to looting especially by those who know that you have something they need. In CA, when something really serious happens, you will have MANY people who will be desperate, who will need the basics NOW and who will not be able to move any significant distance of terrain and because of the breakdown in transportation. From what we have seen in other recent large scale disasters (Florida and the hurricanes), the government will be of little help. Seems like a recipe for a tv movie. I am always reminded of the footage of the attacks of 9/11...the only support the man on the street had was what he could provide for himself. Those whose responsibility was to protect and serve the public were in the situation and fighting for their own survival. TMT |

We here in the Shakey State, have an infrastructure based and engineered on the fact earthquakes WILL occur. Those living in the New Madrid zone, have no such protections, plans or other considerations. When she kicks again..a million people will die. Try to take your gut seriously..and make your own preps. No one will do it for you, and you damned sure will not be able to depend on the Government for help, not any time soon after an event. You will be on your own for months at the least. Try shooting starving children and their parents.
It takes very little to make people very, very desperate. Both those with and without the guns and the food. TMT |

Actually been there. But the snakes were just as worried about us two legged ones.
6' flood in Elj Paso - snakes washed out of the mountain slopes. It was some time before we dried out and got the snakes out. The road was filled over in silt. Nice time in the early 50's.
