In Feb I bought the Neptune series with the stand so that they are higher
off the floor.
There are 3 models mine one for a couple of hundred more that spins faster.
Duh mine has an "max extract" button, adds 2 minutes to the cycle. And then
the monster machine with touch screen and multiple languages with was about
$800 more.

Never been sorry I spent the money, quiet and they do the job well. It was a
trick getting used to an front loader. But it handles an king sized
comforter no sweat. My dryer is electric, old one was gas. Pleased as
punch.

So many models, try Consumer Reports online for good advise.

I'm very happy with the Maytag dryer I bought 8 years ago. I don't know
exacty what model it is, I think it says Dependable Care and/or Heavy Duty
on it. I'm not sure what the equivalent would be today.

As for the Maytag Atlantis washer I bought 4 months ago, I am not as happy.
Mainly, the clothes get roughed up a lot and the spin cycle doesn't get as
much water out as our previous washer (17 year old Hitachi, small but very
good, just expired). There is no setting for gentle wash + high spin, you
have to choose between one or the other, but even their high spin is not
very high.

Now I understand the comments by people who bought front-end loaders,
regarding gentler handling of clothes and high-spin water extraction.
However, our top-loading Hitachi was very gentle on clothes and had
high-spin, so it's not related to front-load vs top-load, it's really
related to machine design in my opinion.

Front or top loaders? I am not impressed with my 7 year old Neptune dryer.
A bit noisy and not great at getting wrinkles out. I think you can get a
better deal on a Sears Kenmore dryer. My dryer is gas by the way. Check
Consumer Reports. They consider the Maytag Neptune washer relatively
unreliable but mine is fine. Early models had mildew problems but Maytag
fixed them for anyone who asked ever after warranty by adding a seal
drainage system and mold resistent plastics.

Hi!

If we're talking top-loaders, I wouldn't do it. True Maytag
toploaders ('Dependable Care') aren't being manufactured
any more, but are now basically Admiral/Norge/M'chef
machines with a redesigned cabinet and a Maytag nameplate.
You'll be much better off in the long run with a Whirlpool -
built 'direct drive' top loader. They're a very reliable, proven
design.

If we're talking front-loaders, I personally wouldn't buy any
of them. I'm sorry to have to say that, bc I like their water
and energy savings and their overall efficiency and performance.
But they just aren't lasting long enough to justify their cost.

I'm seeing rear bearing failures at 5-9 years of age on
average, and that's just unacceptable in view of their price.

That's my $.02. Hope it's of some help.

I bought the set (washer and dryer) about 2 years aog. I have not had
any problems with the dryer, But I have had 2 problems with my washer.
The first problem was a burned out circuit board. The tech that came out
told me that there were problems with the circuit board. He said that
they have been having problems with the boards burning out. I dont know
if maytag addressed this problem yet. The second problem is mold in the
washer drum. well actually its on the rubber flap that seals the drum to
the washer. Today actually it smelled so bad I looked on the website and
it said to clean it with bleach and water. I started to clean and
then I noticed the mold. I was using a solution of 1 part bleach and 1
part water. There was a bunch of mold that I was able to get off but
there was mold that I was not able to remove. I will be scrubbing again
tomorrow. I dont think that a two year old washer should have mold,
actually, any washer for that matter. Anyhoo it also takes longer to
wash clothes but it does use less water. I prob would suggest the dryer
but not the washer. By the way, I do 2-3 loads a day so lack of use, or
sporadic use shouldnt cause mold.( I think)

I bought Admiral branded (low end Maytag) washer and dryer set last
year, and I love them. You can get them at Home Depot and they didn't
cost much and work great.

The mould issue is also well documented, they came up with a redesigned
door seal and door liner with improved ventilation and drainage. I
suggest you call Maytag re this, they've been pretty good at dealing
with affected customers.

Is this a frontload Neptune? The older ones had a mold and circuit board
issue. Call Maytag to see if your is covered for the free repair.
