Default 386 v in a 220 v house?

This house has 3-phase power.

A while ago, two of the five spot lights in the bathroom stopped
working. They used 12 V light bulbs. I removed the two transformers and
replaced the two light bulbs with 220 V ones. They work now, three 12 V
and two 220 V bulbs. However, the lights in the walking closet stopped
working. I checked the voltage at the switch. It's 386 V.

What did I do wrong?

If you are on Planet Earth, it would help if you mentioned what country you reside in and what electric utility company supplies power to your home. ^_^

The county may help, but why the utility company. Is there a difference
in electric from National Grid and United Illuminating? They both look
the same in the wire.

You are going from line to line. Your equipment expects line to
neutral that will be 220v.

(for you American guys, this is not unusual in Europe or anywhere the
brits used to rule)

Here, it's Alabama Power and I've managed to speak with the engineering department when I had problems that I knew were due to a faulty transformer on the pole. Most CSR's at the utility companies have no clue when I've tried to discuss technical issues with them. If the OP would post his country and power utility, I could look it up on the Internet and see if there is a way to contact their engineering department. ^_^

Don't forget to give him the contact info for their electrical

That was my reaction as well. OI have no idea where the 386 volt
reading came from. I would call in an electrician. Repairs by an
unqualified person may void house insurance, as well as being
potentially lethal.

And if you do kill or injure somebody, doing your own repairs without
any qualifications would make it very difficult to argue that it wasn't
your fault.

This house has 3-phase power.

A while ago, two of the five spot lights in the bathroom stopped
working. They used 12 V light bulbs. I removed the two transformers
and
replaced the two light bulbs with 220 V ones. They work now, three 12
V
and two 220 V bulbs. However, the lights in the walking closet
stopped
working. I checked the voltage at the switch. It's 386 V.

What did I do wrong?

You'll find out in a few days. After the house fire burns that place

Get it right the first time and you don't need spellchecks.
