Replacement Windows: Step #7
Oren wrote: "Did you neglect to follow Step #7 ? "
Me? NEVER. Our installers 23 years ago did, and the house was drafty and cold, plus a sash fell out of its track when my Mom went to windex it! On some of the windows, the frame flexed visibly, and the gaps were over 1/8". I was 23, and discovered the jamb adjusters by accident. Those Mercury Excelums had adjusters in both inner and outer sash rails. Turning the screws clockwise caused the jambs to bow inward - toward the middle of the window. Easy as pie! My issue is most online videos aren't detailed enough to include jamb adjustment. And many caprenters/installers have told me that if the windows were ordered the correct size, you don't need to touch them anyway. I respectfully disagreed with them, and we went about our separate ways. But I do know not to over torque them, so that the sash cannot be tilted back up into their rails, or are impossible to open & shut. LOL It's because I learned of these adjustments years ago the house still has the same windows, in perfect working condition. |

I apologize Oren. So Mr. "learn about Jesus" lent me the nickname. Charmed, I'm sure. |

No. Tekkie is another guy that filtered the Mormon and called him on some things I'm not familiar with. The Mormon is ****ed, trying to get past filters. I'm glad to have commented on Step #7 for you. I know Step #7 Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. |

That, and resolve to never install another replacement window as long as I live. Or maybe just for today? Which was it? 1. We admitted we were powerless over weather -- that our drafts had become unmanageable. 2. Came to believe that a Window greater than single panes could restore us to sanity. 3. Made a decision to turn our windows and our lives over to the care of Wonder Window as we understood Him. 4. Made a searching and fearless window inventory of the Home Centers. 5. Admitted to Lowes, to ourselves, and to a higher contractor the exact nature of our windows. 6. Were entirely ready to have someone remove all these defects of the building. 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our aluminum triple track storms. 8. Made a list of all caulking we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to all sealants. 9. Made direct amends to such sealants wherever possible, except when to do so would require new siding. 10. Continued to take window inventory and when they were drafty promptly replaced them. 11. Sought through loans and savings to improve our conscious separation from weather, as we understood it, praying only for knowledge of U values and the power to increase that. 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to homeowners, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. |

I'm glad to have commented on Step #7 for you. I know Step #7 Some posters have said to lighten up on Stumped. Nope, ain't gonna happen. He dug his own hole in alt.hvac Anyone is free to look up his postings and read them. I did before I realized I could serve posters better by outlining his own illegal or immoral acts. He presents a real danger to the unknowing. Luckily there are more people calling him out. I criticize others when I think they are making bad posts. I also expect to be criticized when I do it. I'm not perfect. I don't have time in my life to read senseless, irresponsible jabber. I like to read informed or humorous posts. Opposing views are welcome, I might learn something.
