This is something that could possibly come up with a home network so I consider it to be on topic since I am in a home. I'm away from my home and don't have access to all my network toys and a crate full of WiFi routers and AP's. Here at the center there is a good fast WiFi network with AP's located around the building. I've been able to hit the AP's on 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz. A network to my Chromebook on WiFi can get interesting when I'm using Bluetooth devices. The Bluetooth devices interfere with the 2.4 Ghz signal and the Chromebook switches to 5 Ghz to hit the AP's. Sometimes the 5 Ghz signal isn't strong enough for network access so what I want to do is put together an extender that does NAT because a single password to access the network will only work for one device at a time. If I want to use my tablet, I have to turn off the radio in the Chromebook and vise versa for the tablet. I may obtain a smartphone at some time and I want to use the ability to connect to the WiFi network because of the cell signal dead spot here at the center. The WiFi is divided into different user groups for residents, visitors, staff and administration. The administrator gave me a password for my tablet that's for the visitor group because the passwords for resident group had all been taken. Things were working fine until the signal for the visitor group went away. It's not strong enough for me to access the visitor group. In the past, I've used WiFi routers to do all sorts of things like a normal router where a number of devices can access the network with one password. As a partitioned router to keep visitors out of setup and home network. As a bridge to hook one network to the other and as an extender. I don't have any of my gear with me or really know where it is at home so I'm trying to figure out how to use a WiFi router to hookup with the center's AP at 2..4 Ghz with the single password that I have and do NAT so I can use two or three devices from the WiFi router. I'm think I could plug 4 devices into the Ethernet ports on the router and access the network but I want hookup with WiFi for 2 or 3 wireless devices. I'm not sure if a residential router could work as an extender with NAT but I've seen a dedicated 5 Ghz AP that connects to a residential 2.4 Ghz router to extend the network at a higher 5 Ghz band. Is there anyone out there who has done something like what I want to do. I'm thinking I can use a residential WiFi router as a bridge with NAT and connect it to the 5 Ghz AP so I can hookup several devices to the network using the single password in the residential router to connect to the center's AP. Any ideas? I'm away from home and all my toys so I can't experiment. o_O

I may order it anyway if I have enough money in my toy budget for next month. I have 13 cents left this month after paying all my bills. ^_^

I still want to get one of the 5Ghz AP's because it's a hard deal to pass up and I don't plan on staying here much longer. I'm getting stronger by the day and have surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning to get rid of a hydrocele and cataract surgery next month. If I could get my orthopedic surgeon to reconsider knee replacement surgery, it wouldn't be long before I could walk again. The wound care specialist will be here today to check out my venous stasis ulcer and let me know the results of the biopsy. I'm fed up with being off my feet and it's so darn frustrating to require help to do some of the simplest things. I want to get back to work and I'll retire when my heart stops again, for the last time. o_O

I've ordered a 5Ghz access point made for attaching to a Wireless G 2.4Ghz router so the WiFi network can be extended with a dedicated 11ac 5Ghz access point. Here at the center, there are access points all over the different wings of the building that provide partitioned WiFi coverage for administration, visitors, residents and staff. The AP's operate on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands.. Each user has a unique password to access the WiFi network. Two or more devices can't access the network at the same time with the same password. This means that I can't use my Chromebook and tablet to get on the WiFi network at the same time with the one password I've been given. Each device must have its own individual password.

My Chromebook is equipped with Bluetooth which operates in the 2.4Ghz wireless band and when using a Bluetooth device in close proximity to the Chromebook, the Bluetooth devices interfere with the 2.4Ghz WiFi signal so the Chromebook automagically switches too the 5Ghz band. The problem comes in when the 5Ghz signal is too low making it impossible to access the WiFi network and The Internet. If I take the Bluetooth headphones to the bathroom with me when I need to drop a load of ready-mix, I can listen to the audio from the Chromebook. Everything works because the Bluetooth device isn't next to the Chromebook. Humm, I wonder if I can get a Bluetooth enabled colon?

I want to be able to access the Internet with multiple devices, even something that is't wireless and requires a wired Ethernet connection. I can do this with a 2.4 Ghz WiFi router setup to work in bridge mode using the single password I have to access the resident WiFi partition. This will give me 4 Ethernet ports that will work at the same time because of NAT provided by the router. One of those ports will be plugged into the 5Ghz AP which will connect to multiple WiFi devices at the same time because those devices will use the password from the router, not the resident partition.

Here in the wing I've been moved to from the TCU, the rooms are not provided with telephones and TV sets. My friend brought my TV from my home which I've connected it to the provided digital cable. I also had him bring a long HDMI cable so I can hook the TV to the Chromebook. I'm going to get my pal to bring my magicJack Plus which can plug into an Ethernet port on the router which will give me a VoIP telephone that doesn't need a computer to work.

Network Address Translation (NAT) is a way to map an entire network (or networks) to a single IP address. NAT is necessary when the number of IP addresses assigned to you by your Internet Service Provider or other network is less than the total number of computers that you wish to provide Internet access for.

I hope this makes it clear as to what I wish to do. My friend Stinky will bring some of my WiFi toys to me from my house so I can proceed with this project. I think it will work for me and I'll post the results of my quest for a multi user network partition of my own. I hope the remote IT service techs don't detect it and cut me off. ^_^

Somebody has to run that outfit

There was a guy in administration here a while back who was great at getting the TV's and WiFi to work for the residents. Unfortunately he was only here for training and has transferred to another facility. I needed to access the Internet at the same time with both my Chromebook and tablet. A young lady from administration gave me another password for my tablet which worked fine on the visitor partition for a while before the signal went away and became too low for me to get a connection. She told me that all of the passwords for the resident partition have been given out which is why she gave me the password for the visitor partition. If I setup my own network bridge, I only need the one password for the resident partition of the WiFi network for me to be able to connect all my toys to the Internet at the same time. ^_^
