Thief Injured Attempting To Steal Copper Wire From School
December 16, 2011 6:34 PM

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) – A thief apparently looking to steal copper from
equipment on the roof of a Miami-Dade school fell more than two stories,
a debilitating plunge that left him unable to walk, apparently with a
broken hip or leg.

The hapless Spiderman was captured by security cameras at Charles Wyche
Elementary School in Miami Gardens. He arrives, wearing a ski mask, and
begins to arrange ropes he’s carrying for a climb up the outside wall of
the school to the roof, more than two stories above. Moments later a
second camera angle shows the man falling to the ground – a drop of more
than 25 feet – where he begins to writhe in pain. The intruder dragged
himself out on to a walkway and attempted to stand up, but immediately
fell back down. He then dragged himself on his belly out of the school,
pushing a pair of bolt cutters in front of him.

He'll probably sue the school board for not providing him with proper
equipment and safety devices.

Fu k. That dude is in some serious pain. Too bad he didn't get
electrocuted and thrown off the roof.

Yep. Under the concept of "attractive nuisance." The copper strewn about on
the school-house roof is an almost irresistible draw. It's the same concept
as a child drowned in an un-fenced backyard swimming pool.

At a minimum, the school should have enclosed the roof in razor wire as a
deterrent.

For a few hundred dollars, live(s) could be saved.

It's for the children.

Send the thief to a Texas prison where he can work for his keep. I
suppose we'd have to figure the cost of incarceration vs the cost of
the damage the thief can do over his lifetime. If the thief does a
hundred thousand dollars damage a year and it only costs ten thousand
a year to keep him locked up, I guess we should consider that a fair
trade. ^_^

WHAT? That can't be. We all know that the current warming trend is
the first in the history of the earth and that it is entirely man
made. Don't go confusing people by telling them Arizona has any

What's a bullet cost?

Texas should open more prisons. Seems they could make some real money
charging, say, 10% less than CA prisons do and keep the profit. Maybe just
contract out the management?

Maybe. I'm not sure. I've seen one guy that lived after federal
agents put 5 bullet holes in his chest (Miami). He got a long prison

Ugg, yes, he will win. About 20 years ago a high school drop out broke into
his old high school (not my school district, thankfully), vandalized the
place to the tune of over $100k, then decided to go up on the roof. The
moron thought it was a good idea to walk across the glass paned roof over
the green house and became paralyzed, surprise, surprise when he fell two
stories and broke his neck. The SOB sued the school district for having an
"attractive nuisance" even though the glass paned roof could only be
reached if you broke into the janitor's stairwell leading to that part of
the roof (for maintenance). He not only didn't do any jail time (due to his
injuries!) but he received a judgment of $25k per year plus 100% of his
medical expenses for life! Seriously? I'd have thrown the bum in jail for
life. Oh, and he admits he vandalized the school and was "stoned off his
ass" at the time. But none of that saved the school district from footing
some truly astronomical bills for the past 20 years. Glad I'm not one of
those taxpayers!

Yeah. Some crooks beg for easy treatment.

On my chain-gang, in Florida, they made small rocks out of big rocks.

"Locker-Knockers" -- thieves in prisons were cut, beaten -- requiring
medical advise.

on the school-house roof is an almost irresistible draw. It's the same
concept as a child drowned in an un-fenced backyard swimming pool.

In cases like that, a hit man is a less expensive option. ^_^

What job would entail crawling around and pushing a pair of bolt cutters?
Maybe they could put a thick terrycloth jumpsuit on him and let him buff the

I saw a cute picture of a jumper suit with dust mops attached worn by an
Asian infant. I suppose the little fellow could clean the floor while
crawling around. It could be scaled up for our thief. ^_^

A judgement or a settlement?
Cases like this result in paying nearly anything in order to avoid a
trial. And insurance typically pays, and sometimes drives, the
settlement. But don't cry for the insurance co execs just yet, they roll
the cost into their actuarial tables and collect it from their policy
holders who pay it from whoever funds them (consumers, taxpayers).

In summary, crime pays.

Judgment. The SOB wanted MILLIONS of $ to settle and the school district was
sure no sane person would give this jerk anything (and they shouldn't have).
The jury awarded only $25K per year plus all medical for life. It was the
medical costs that killed the school district. Sure, the insurance paid, but
their premiums went through the roof!

Given the name, he could be of Haitian decent. Sounds like a Haitian
name. Kind of Frenchie.

Miami is full of people with funny names.

Allegedly!

(-"

I heard a local reporter at a scene where ambulances were scene carting away
wounded people: "Seven people were shot in the alleged incident." I don't
think they treat victims of "alleged" incidents. That's like the old joke,
if a plane crashes on the US-Canadian border, where do they bury the
survivors?

Almost as funny/sad as a show about animals near the Artic circle that said
they live in "crucifyingly cold" temperatures. There's SO much wrong with
that analogy I don't know where to start.

Might be the grandson of Joe Pepitone, major league baseballer for the NY
Yankees when I was growing up. He was born in America but his parents came
from Sicily. He ended up playing in Japan when his MLB career was over and
missed so many game for alleged illness that "Pepitone" now means "Goof Off"
in Japan. Found this interesting little item in Wiki:

Pepitone spent four months at Rikers Island jail in 1988 for two
misdemeanor drug convictions after he and two other men were arrested on
March 18, 1985, in Brooklyn after being stopped by the police for running a
red light in a car containing nine ounces of cocaine, 344 quaaludes, a
free-basing kit, a pistol and about $6,300 in cash.Coverage of the story by
WOR-TV (Channel 9) in the New York area featured clips of an incredulous
Pepitone declaring, "I didn't know cocaine was illegal", and his brother
Vinnie, a New York City detective, staunchly defending his character. He was
released from jail on a work-release program when Yankee owner George
Steinbrenner offered him a job in minor-league player development for the
team.

9 OUNCES? A misdemeanor? Only if you're famous and your brother is a
detective.

I like the Arizona sheriff's method - put them in pink jumpsuits and make
them live in tents. If they want to eat, they have to work growing their
own food.

I've always thought that someone is pretty much who they are going to be for
the rest of their lives by the time they are six or seven. If their parents
are thieves and welfare cheats, that's who they are going to be, too.
That's why I am so much in favor of taking kids away from criminal parents
at a very early age before their parents have had time to stamp their
identities on their offspring.

While it's not a popular sentiment among my liberals friends, I think if you
take those kids out of homes where there's no father, no work income and no
work ethic early enough in life, you can prevent them from growing up to
just like their larcenous and lazy parents. The sad truth is that it's
easier for two career criminals to make a baby that's going to be a burden
to society than it is for them to buy a car.

Or, maybe, the liberals and socialists want him taken out? So, they are
making a lot of false accusations? Would not be the first time liberals made
false accusations.

None! Any penologist can be investigated and sued in federal court.
Most suits are frivolous Beating a prisoner with a clinched fist does
not equate to brutality. Or a civil rights violation. BTDT and have a
tee-shirt to prove it.

First he has to be indicted for a crime, and convicted. I think to
poster means the federal government will house him "behind the down
under" and feed him "swill". LMAO!
