Default Floor outlet cover

I am trying to find a floor outlet cover that will close with a plug in
one of the outlets. All I can find are outlets that have the outlet
mounted so high in the hole that a standard plug keeps the cover from
closing. In addition none of the covers I found have a slot or whatever
to allow for the electric wire to be plugged in while the cover is closed.

Any one know of a source. I've even searched on the net and can't find
one. Is there some reason they don't exist. Codes?

i have a 120 year old house that was recently rewired. some old homes
like mine had a number of floor outlets in most bedrooms. code required
them to be removed.

My problem is not with covering the outlet when not in use. It is in
covering the outlet with a plug plugged into it. I need a cover that
allows a plug to be plugged in and then the cover closed over top of it
so as to prevent any accidental tripping. Currently the brass cover hits
the plug when it is plugged in and I am afraid it will crush the wire
and possibly electrocute someone. Yea, I know, in Texas that is normal.

Thanks, but this is a new home with a slab. Outlets are installed in the
floor of large rooms to allow for furniture to be placed with lights
on tables next to them. Keeps someone from running an extension cord
from the wall to the sofa, etc.

We've got an outlet in the middle of our living room floor and it is very
handy for the table lamp. When we aren't using the outlet (when I rearrange
the furniture so that the table isn't near the outlet), I simply plug a
child safety plug into it. The plugs I mean are like this:

We have several 'floor' outlets in our house (built in 1993) - they
all have brass covers that screw in the covers over the outlet when
they are not in use.

Unlike some of the other responses you rec'd, I understand what it is
you want - but when the outlet is in use, its not intended to be
covered. And an outlet cover ids not intended for what you propose.

Your furniture should not be positioned so anybody could easily trip
on the exposed open cover. If they could trip on the cover, they
could also hook their foot on the wire coming out from it. I think
you are gilding the lily a bit much here.

But its a free country so keep searching if you like.

You can buy covers for wires that prevent tripping, and protect the
wires. Some of these might also cover the outlet. For example (the
first one I found in google) http://www.cableorganizer.com/cord-covers/
