I am trying to find a floor outlet cover that will close with a plug in
one of the outlets. All I can find are outlets that have the outlet
mounted so high in the hole that a standard plug keeps the cover from
closing. In addition none of the covers I found have a slot or whatever
to allow for the electric wire to be plugged in while the cover is closed.

Any one know of a source. I've even searched on the net and can't find
one. Is there some reason they don't exist. Codes?

i have a 120 year old house that was recently rewired. some old homes
like mine had a number of floor outlets in most bedrooms. code required
them to be removed.

Thanks, but this is a new home with a slab. Outlets are installed in the
floor of large rooms to allow for furniture to be placed with lights
on tables next to them. Keeps someone from running an extension cord
from the wall to the sofa, etc.

We've got an outlet in the middle of our living room floor and it is very
handy for the table lamp. When we aren't using the outlet (when I rearrange
the furniture so that the table isn't near the outlet), I simply plug a
child safety plug into it. The plugs I mean are like this:
