Default Passport Question

My US Passport was last renewed in 2005, expiring in 2015, never been
used... everyone comes to see me anymore... they don't like to pay for
me to travel Business Class ;-)

Given all the new screwy rules, would anyone know if it's still valid,
or do I need a new version?

Thanks!

(Don't want to say where I'm going... might get accosted by Phil or
Slowman ;-)

Why not just ask the people you got the passport from in the first place?

Good Luck!

I used my passport from 2000 for travel in July without any problems.

I'll second that. I've just returned from England with an 8 year old
passport. And I travel to Vancouver with it all the time. No problems.
But if Jim is visiting one of the world's trouble spots, the lack of the
latest security features might slow him down.

Not to mention the photo right out of his MIT sophomore class. ;-)

Probably not. You are already in the worst country to get into.

And get out of.

It is? From what I've been told it is easier for US citizens to get in
& out than people from other counties. Anyway, all the forms and stuff
made me decide not to travel to the US at all.

Since you have to deal with the problem, perhaps it is easiest to go
with the flow and get a new passport with the chip, fingerprints, etc.

Wonder when Obama will treat us to his equivalent of the Berlin wall?

George the Moron probably would have erected one if he was / could be
re-elected.

You're absolutely wrong on that count. Bush was even against the
fence at the Mexican border.

Now we have a totalitarian little (literally) *******.

Oh come on, are you really saying GWB didn't have his own ideological
and authoritarian agendas? Just because you happened to agree with them
doesn't make him any better than the current incumbent and at least, so
far, Obama doesn't appear to be a shill for big oil.

Not as much as GWB bothered me. Socialism in the way I understand it,
created many things that are accepted as being good and worthwhile here
in the UK (health service, social security, good and 'free' at source
education etc. etc..)

Wussism I suppose is just another way of saying non aggressive?

I guess that just balances out the aggressive nature of GWB's
administration. I've yet to see compelling evidence for Gulf War II
apart from the need to secure energy resources and settle a few old
scores. Pretty much every house of cards that was constructed to justify
it by the politicians there and here has been demolished.

Of course, my opinion of GWB and Obama has been shaped by the reporting
I see here in the UK and my opinion of them won't matter one iota to a
US citizen.

I don't remember (I'm 'only' 40, I don't remember as many as you do Jim)
another US president, Rep or Dem, who attracted as much bad press
outside the US as GWB did.

I'm fairly middle of the road as far as politics goes but one thing I do
believe is that all politicians should be held up to scrutiny and
ridicule as often as possible and never allowed to forget who employs
them because they're almost all slimy and untrustworthy.

VOLUME 7, NUMBER 27

September 25, 2009

Medicare Cuts Are Real

Many of you have recently received mail from AARP and if you have not,
you have definitely seen President Obama on every television channel
possible telling seniors that the health care reform bills before
Congress do not cut Medicare benefits. President Obama even chastised
Members of Congress in his recent address for saying that eliminating
$538 billion from Medicare would restrict senior’s access to care and
reduce the benefits they have paid for their entire lives.

Unfortunately for AARP and President Obama, the nonpartisan
Congressional Budget Office (CBO) strongly disagrees. In testimony
before the Senate Finance Committee, the head of CBO, Douglas Elmendorf,
made it clear that the 25 percent of seniors in Florida that receive
their health care through Medicare Advantage can expect to see their
benefits reduced.

If that’s not enough reason to question the claims being made by
President Obama and AARP, let me leave you with a quote from the 2008
campaign made by then Sen. Obama. In regards to Medicare cuts he said,
“if you count on Medicare, it would mean fewer places to get care and
less freedom to choose your own doctors. You’ll pay more for your
drugs. You’ll receive fewer services. You’ll get lower quality care.
I don’t think that’s right.”

I don’t think that’s right either, Mr. President. As long as
Congressional Democrats and the President continue to advocate for
dramatic cuts to Medicare to pay for insurance subsidies for the young,
the healthy and the wealthy, I will continue to oppose their plan.

Thank you,

Ginny Brown-Waite M.C.

Hehe, my kids are making me feel old so that's a welcome relief.

Both Nixon and Johnson (20th Century's version) took a lot of guff
from the press.

I suspect all presidents/prime ministers etc. take a lot more from the
press than they deserve, it seems to be the media that sets policy these
days because they shout loudest and unfortunately the media moguls have
their own agendas.
And then there was Carter, lummox of all lummox's,
the worst of all Presidents until the present one who, to me, seems
intent on destroying the US as I've always known it :-(

Carter is the first US president I can remember seeing, that's not to
say I didn't see Ford on TV or in the newspapers (I used to read along
with my grandfather and was reading for myself by 4) but I don't
remember him and I almost certainly wasn't interested at the time.

Perhaps it's time for a little change though, some of what Obama is
doing looks worthy to me, perhaps the implementation is a little off
but....

We can only hope that the "unelection" fear sweeping thru Congress
causes them to force some "mellowness" onto Obama's positions ;-)
