Nothing more pleasant than...

A Democrat President, barely two weeks into his term, already losing
popularity in the polls.

Maybe he'll reach W's level within his honeymoon 100 days ?:-)

And, now, less than 50% approving his stimulus package.

And now he has to find several new tax cheats to appoint, after two

Well, Blagojevich is available now.

He'll have to wait a couple weeks till Blagojevich is out of the
news, so the morons can pretend they didn't know about his past.

You mean like "well, golly gee I had no idea Rev. Wright was like

Similar, but he isn't trying to appoint Wright to a position.

There is nothing more awkward to watch than a republican facing the fact
their precious W ****ed up the whole world economy so well, but then
republicans are renowned for being egyptian about all things political,
ie, they are seen standing in denial rather too often.

I'm just wondering when the USA will pay all its debts.

Nope, they'll blow out the dollar. The numbers will be match but
it will be fairy gold.

The Republicans will spend the next several years sabotaging the
economy to make Obama look the second coming of Jimmy Carter and
then the real pain will begin.

One thing to remember, the boys in the back room of the Republican
party are those elements of the economy that made out like bandits
during the oil shock inflation of the late '70s and '80s. (Real Estate
barons and the like). They're not afraid of inflation, but see it as
an opportunity. They think it will be like the 80's with Reagan
all over again. Except that they've also sold off the US manufacturing
base to the Chinese and there's a lot less of a real economy than there
used to be.

Maybe Jim said...

Flipper, Get a life... AND a sense of humor.

In fact. I have a rather robust sense of humor and suspected you were
trying to be 'funny', in some weird sort of way, but your little
'joke' was neither appropriate nor funny. Why?

Because I don't consider the current economic problem in any way
'funny' and a good part of how we got into this mess is due to left
wing delusionals, like Patrick, who have no idea what's going on as
they swill Kool-Aid by the bucket load, which would be tragedy enough
without them regurgitating it all over everyone else.

Repulicans were in charge of the USA when the latest recession developed
for all of the Bush terms and then whamo, it happened. I recall the
Gramm Act spurred on those greedy barons of capitalism.

Let me assure you that I had nothing whatsover to do with bringing on
the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

I think I have a far more realistic idea of what's going on than the Jim
Thompsons of this world.

Only dumbass redneck republicans seem to be able to **** up so badly
bigtime. When they have, then they call everyone different to them as
being delusionals, commie reds, left wing evil liberalistas and all
manner of bull****.

I've heard die hard republicans say the USA won the vietnam war because
although the US lost 50,000, the Vietnamese losses were 3 million.

Such folks never admit to a loss or say they are wrong. Hence the
terrible mess we are in.

I really hope the Vietnamese who have suffered from Agent Orange are
successful while they sue the crap out of the USA.

And all your little 'joke' does is divert from the serious issue while
giving similar minded delusionals an excuse to claim you're just as
irrational as they are.

I know it's hard for
leftist weenies, but give it a try, you'll like it ;-)

You should watch where you stick that foot because I'm anything but a
"leftist weenie."

I already went through one round of 'liberal' economic destruction in
the 70's and I'm not looking forward to this one because these kooks

I already went through one round of 'liberal' economic destruction in
the 70's and I'm not looking forward to this one because these kooks
are a hundred times worse than the last set.

On the other hand, I suppose it could be argued that when one is a
passenger you might as well laugh as cry while the lunatic behind the

Nope, they'll blow out the dollar. The numbers will be match but
it will be fairy gold.

Yep, All this "pork" layered-on by the Dems is going to cause massive
inflation.

The Republicans will spend the next several years sabotaging the
economy

How can they do that... they're totally impotent in both houses, they
might as well just go home.

to make Obama look the second coming of Jimmy Carter and
then the real pain will begin.

Takes no effort to do that.

Except that they've also sold off the US manufacturing
base to the Chinese and there's a lot less of a real economy than there
used to be.

The Democrat theory is that spend.. spend.. spend.. and government
jobs will bolster the economy and employment will improve. If that
were actually true, wouldn't France have the world's best economy?

Yeah... but why it is holding up is a mystery. With the debt that the US is
foisting upon its citizens (and the world) it seems an insurmountable problem to
pay it off. Unless there are sufficient assets to back up the current high
currency rate it must fall into a hole eventually. I just think the rest of the
world is trying to buy US$, (and therefore keeping the $ up) out of a desperate
hope that the US will be able to turn things around as they usually have in the
past. Perhaps this time the hill will prove too steep to climb.

Mystery is part of an economic system. If there wasn't mystery, there'd
never be a recession. Mystery over money transactions is rampant in all
ecomomies because people try to get rich without raising a sweat to
work, and never admit what they do to those around them.

Meanwhile, the Oz Labour governemnt has decided to spend 42 billion in
economic stimulus.
It works out at $2,000 fr each man, woman and child in Oz, and **is just
peanuts**, and will hardly do anything much IMHO.

The Liberals want to stop them wasting so much money, and so it goes,
just where nobody knows except that later there will be this huge bill
to pay.

But apparently no idea that Freddie and Fannie had more debt than all
private US corporations combined and almost as much as the Federal
government.

I've heard die hard republicans say the USA won the vietnam war
because although the US lost 50,000, the Vietnamese losses were 3
million.

I've never heard Republicans do that kind of bean counting. I have heard it
was McNamara who did the bean counting, and he has become a hero to the left
since he started badmouthing our intensions instead of his own strategy.

And I've heard there were no die hard Republicans in the Kennedy or Johnson
administrations making the decisions that got us into it.

I've also heard that die hard Republicans didn't create Fannie or Freddie,
or write the legislation that defined their mandate or redefined it in 1978
and 1999, and that there were no die hard Republicans on the boards of
either of those GSEs.

You're a sucker for B.S.

I am hopeful, and I suppose that makes me a sucker.

Not too many thoughtful, salvageable folks here on this server, but you
might be one.

The trouble that we are in is clearly based on corruption and greed, which
are absolutely bipartisan. Instead of lining up on opposite sides, let's
look at what we might consider: Here are some positive steps:

1/ Lobbyists banned or severely restricted
2/ Line item veto for our CEO (currently O.O.)
3/ Term limits for Congress
4/ A mandated balanced budget plan. (I know, it is now an exercise, but
mandating this form of fiscal planning is essential).

I could go on, but you would not read it. So, here is a summary statement:
The founders of our country (which I truly love and respect) assumed that
members of Congress would be farmers and small business owners and craftsmen
and doctors and teachers and ordinary folk, and that they would serve one
term and then go back home and practice their craft. Today, their craft (as
mostly lawyers) is to be re-elected via pork, earmarks, and all sorts of
baggage that is drowning us.

BTW, some small investors and shaky financial institutions who have been
caught up in this recent crash should NOT be bailed out. Why? Because pigs
get fat and hogs get slaughtered. Old but true.
