Default Jointer Rigid or X5

Hi WW Guru's
I need some input please. I was looking into buying the delta X5 6" jointer
thinking it had a $100 rebate, well it kinda does, but you have to buy $250
worth of other delta goodies, now this would be great if I had that kind of
money. So here is my question, how does the Ridgid 6" jointer HD for $349
stack up to this and others? I am a newbie/intermediate woodworker and this
is my first venture into starting with rough cut lumber, I already own a
dewalt DW733 planer. Anyhow any input will be gratefully accepted.
thanks
Sandie

I bought the Ridgid jointer about a year ago and have been very happy
with it. I believe I used a 10% off coupon so I got it for a little
less than the $349 and put it on my HD credit card so no payments and
no interest for 6 months. I bought an HTC mobile base for it from
Amazon. It is my first jointer so I don't have anything to compare it
to but it has done everything I've asked of it. What a pleasure to have
tight joints when gluing up panels. I also bought the Ridgid 3650 table
saw about six months ago and have been happy with it also. I also own
tools by Delta, Ryobi, Porter Cable, Hitachi, etc. I usually search
this NG for opinions, read magazines reviews and check out the tool in
person if at all possible before buying.

I was just making the same decision and bought the Delta. If
you look at the Delta web page you'll see there is another
rebate/deal where you get a free tool or $50 back. Assuming
you don't want to buy any other $250+ Delta product to get the
$100 rebate (I did-- was buying a 20-580 planer anyway) you
can still get the final net price on the X jointer down to
$470 with free shipping at Amazon. The jointer went on sale
for $549 Thursday, then consider the free shipping, $25 off
coupon, the 1.57% A9 discount, and the $50 rebate and you're
within $100 of the price of the Ridgid inc. tax. I'm not
wedded to any particular brand but am not a fan of Home Depot
nor one to trust that Ridgid will even be around making
jointers in ten years...I expect Delta will, in some guise at
least. Reviews on both models are pretty good, but the Delta
is heftier and has a better warranty...worth the $100 to me,
and of course I wanted the additional $100 rebate as well.

X5 jointer and 20-580 planer both shipped to the door for a
net of $730 seemed like a pretty good deal to me. The Ridgid
pair would actually cost a bit more with tax.

I'd buy the Rigid again in a second, if I needed a 6 incher.

A rigid 6 incher? I'll leave that one alone.
